A Micro-Thought on the Long-Form Content

It’s been quite a while since I wrote a post here. I didn’t have much to say anyway. Moreover, I had been busy on my site and so it’s not as if I had been staying idle.

One remarkable thing I have noticed about my blogging journey in the last 10 months is that now I’m able to write the long-form content (>2000 words) consistently. In the beginning, I was quite happy with 1000-1200 worded posts and I thought I could say whatever I wanted to within that length. When I look at some of my older posts, I could see that they mostly resemble school essays (“Write an Essay on…” type) with all the usual essay elements – introduction, main body (problems, solutions) and conclusion. The last vestiges of school education, maybe.

Perhaps, I had been conditioned to write short posts by social media platforms like Facebook. Long years of “microblogging” on Facebook in the form of status updates and commenting on discussion threads turned me into a microblogger. And so when I started blogging on my real site, it took quite an effort to elaborate on a topic longer than 1200 words. As a person, I’m also like that only. A man with few words. Hah! The longest post I wrote then (a humongous 3000-plus-word post) was not exactly a post in the true sense of the term but was a “listicle" (a list masquerading as an article).

So, after writing close to one lakh words spread over 60 posts today, I think I’m finally finding my groove. It’s not difficult anymore to write posts with more than 2500 words. This length is the new normal for me. It’s not something I consciously try to do also but something that evolved on its own.

The best thing about Internet marketing is that there’s no success formula that works for everybody. While they say there are certain “evergreen” SEO hacks, the truth is there’s no guarantee that they’ll work in your case all the time. I still feel that most of the time, it’s a hit-and-miss thing and something that is mostly short-lived.

But know what? The true SEO hack is the long-form content. With it, you hit the home run most of the time. Did you say something about being wordy and superfluous? Well, don’t worry. That can be worked out. Keep writing.

P. S. I don't write long here in WA blog posts. Got to conserve my energy :)

Great Post

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for that info.

Hey Sukumarth,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you that as a person start writing as a newbie they struggle to get their groove. But when they do they soar!!

Tried and True

Elaine

Get a length that works for you and build from there!

I will, Mike :)

Nice to read your post.
It's like exercise, writing, we think. You start off at a certain level and with practice, your writing 'muscles' become stronger and you are able to produce more and better content.
In any case, good news and we wish you continued success!

Indeed. Writing is like exercise. Got to build those writing muscles :)

Keep climbing that ladder to success

You bet, I will :)

Hi Sukumarth, There is certainly a style to blogging, which needs to be learnt, including ideas for catchy titles and ensuring that your keywords appear there and in the description. A necessary skill, as well as content writing, Best Alan

Thanks for dropping by, Alan.
