NO More Goals
I’ve been thinking again (I know—uh oh). We are always told we need goals and many of us have made our lists especially at the beginning of a New Year, month, or week. Goals help us to succeed right?
What are goals? They are basically an aim at a desired result.
Goals can be:
-Time based (long term and short term)
-Focus driven (driving all your daily decisions) or for many here
-Topic based (earn a certain amount of money)
Now, these can all be working at the same time. For example - You determine within 6 months of joining WA you want to earn $1000/month so you totally focus on that goal!
You have metrics to measure this goal. Most notably SMART:
Specific – determine exactly what you want
Measurable – decide how you will measure your results
Attainable – make sure your goals are realistic
Relevant – your goals should align with your values the WHY of your reason to achieve
Time based – set timeframe to accomplish your goal
Congratulations!!!!! You’ve worked hard and achieved all your goals!!!! You’ve earned $1000, you’ve finally lost that 30 lbs. As you can see, there is a FINISH LINE. Now what? Do you stop? Do create another goal and go through the process again?
How about instead of a GOAL mindset, you have a GROWTH mindset?
What does that look like? Well, instead of thinking about an end goal, you gradually grow over time and constantly (never ending). You evolve every day. You are better today than you were yesterday. For example: You’ve created more content today than yesterday, you’ve eaten better today than yesterday etc.
Growth is unlimited. Every positive and negative that life throws at you is a stepping stone to the person you were born to become.
Some of the truths of growth:
-It takes time. You don’t become an expert at anything in a day
-It’s an incremental, evolving process but constantly moving in a forward direction
-It takes energy and effort
-It is can involve change – that change can come from within as in an epiphany that shifts the way you think or externally such as a pandemic
Perhaps goals and growth can work together? Some people like having that end in sight. It’s like a carrot keeping them motivated. However, how about if your goal could simply be better today than you were yesterday.
When you see someone after many years and they say “WOW, you haven’t changed a bit!” Is that a compliment to you? I guess it is if they’re talking about your wrinkles but usually that’s not the case. Personally, I want people to see who I've become over time. I want to have gotten better!!!!
UNLOCK your potential and continue to grow into the person you were always meant to be.
These were my thoughts for the day......I hope I gave you some points to ponder as well.
Hugs

You are so right and if truth be told what you state is the key to the door on so many fronts including ones business. Without the ability to not limit yourself your goal my be reached but you have not unlocked the mindset thus full potential is not attained.

This is a great post, Debbi! I really like how you combined the GOAL mindset with the GROWTH mindset. At the end of the day, the completion of each goal should lead you to an even bigger and more ambitious goal ultimately generating GROWTH!
GOAL #1 ➡️ GOAL #2 ➡️ GOAL #3 ➡️➡️➡️ GROWTH
