Flexibility Rocks and Rules!

A few years ago, I looked into a job site called Flex Jobs. It’s a place (for a small fee), you can find remote, flexible, work from home job opportunities. You select your location, the type of job you’re seeking, whether you want full time or part time, etc. They then send you job postings from various companies meeting your criteria.

They’ve been in business since 2007 and seem to be quite reputable. I never found anything that interested me but then I’m pretty picky. I don’t have an account with them anymore, however, they send me information periodically.

Back in Feb of this year, they sent me something that I found interesting and perhaps helpful to promote WA. They surveyed 3,900 people regarding how work impacts:

-Stress levels

- 35% said they had to take a break from work due to personal circumstances. Of those, 88% said that if their job was flexible, they could have continued to work.

-Work-Life Balance

- 67% state this is the reason they seek flexible job

- 54% said their balance was now great or very good (could improve I would think)

-Personal Health

-95% stated a flexible job would make them happier (yeahhhh, no suits -- helloooo)

-89% thought they'd take better care of themselves if job was flexible

-Non-Romantic Relationships

-88% said a flexible job would create more time with family

-94% thought flexibilty would help them be a better parent

-78% thought flexiblity would allow them to be available for friends

-Romantic Relationships

-80% thought flexiblity would help them be a more attentive spouse

-64% said a flexible job would likely improve their sex life (I'm just reporting what they said)

-53% thought flexibility would increase time available to for dates

Some interesting stats although, to me, I see some overlap in the categories.

A 3,900 person sample may not sound like a lot, I think it's a decent cross section of employees.

While WE know the numerous benefits of being a part of this platform, not everyone does. Stats can help show others the benefits that can be derived from leaving the cubicle.

Just wanted to provide some food for thought. I hope you have an awesome Wednesday!!!

Hugs

Excellent stats and very useful to know. People should be given a choice to work from home or in the workplace,
Honestly, many people do not even need to wake up early and go into work as they can do this in the comfort of their own home. Hopefully, since this Lockdown, there can be more talk on this and drown out 9-5, 6 days a week overworked life.

I can tell you that I might still be working today if working from home was an option at least a few days a week. It's going to be interesting to see how all this evolves.

In some businesses, yes, in manual labor and manufacturing business, not so much, Farah! I see what you are saying though!

Jeff

Yes Jeff, it certainly depends on the kind of business that you are in. Thank you:)

You're very welcome, Farah!

I actually think that is a decent sample in terms of research stats.

What is interesting in the UK people are being forced back into office to work despite them providing great value working for home. They are actually being told if they have to self islotate they will have to take holiday or unpaid leave. What an own goal!

There are a lot of CEO's justifying their office real estate spent right now and causing anxiety by saying "it time to get back to work" when their teams have been working from home the whole of lockdown.

There has been a shift in home working mentality which WA could take a advantage it seems as an opportunity.

Some companies here are getting back to work as well with alternating schedules so that the entire team is not working onsite at any given time. That actually offers a healthy compromise I think.

I agree that the new mentality bodes well for WA.

Hi Debbi,

There is an added benefit in building ones own business. We become our own boss instead of reporting to someone else.

That must have an even greater impact on the results you posted.

Thanks for a thought provoking post.

Cheers.

Edwin

My thought when I posted it was that this could provide some fodder for those strictly promoting WA.

You're welcome, Edwin.

Some very useful advice here both on a means of obtaining part time jobs and the stats provided by people in them. People inthe world are have ing to rethink their way of working and living and it will not be easy for many getting by is going to be by word and what is offered is very helpful in that mindset within the circumstances shift!!

Have a grat day!

Yes, it IS a whole different work AND school environment. I've heard a lot of good feedback regarding the work from home employee. They like the idea of no commute and it allows them more flexibility to work around other commitments and NOW enables them to stay home with their virtual learning children. Yet, I've also heard some complaints about not being able to see other people and have that human interaction. I suppose it all comes down to personal preference as far as satisfaction level.

You have a great day as well!
