It is hard to believe that it is December 7th and I wanted to take a couple minutes to thank everyone on WA that is part of this generation or family members of the heroes of from 70 plus years ago.

  • Please provide the name of anybody in the Greatest Generation that you may know or like to honor. Share details if you would like.

I lost my great uncle in the French hedge rows a few days after D-Day. His name was Leonard Powell and he was a US Army Staff Sergeant.

It was my intent to put something together but since I am on the road tied up peeling back onion layers for my 9 to 5 I will not be able to until this weekend.

Wishing you health, safety, and success. I am thankful these great people have allowed me to be fifty plus going on fifteen.

Thanks for stopping by.

My father is a WWII Navy Vet. He came in towards the end of the fight but was on his way to Japan to invade when we dropped the bomb. To this day, even though I am a staunch conservative Truman is my favorite President (well besides Lincoln and Reagan haha) because I may not have made it had my dad invaded and not come back.
Damo

Damo, understood and thanks. Great people come in all walks of life and the greatest are above the fray. Jay

Hi! Jay,
I am indebted and salute to you. In 12-year providing urological care in military and veteran hospitals, I talked with some many our uniformed members and their family as old as 101 and as young as in their late 20s; I learned so much about them - a lot of inspiring stories behind their lives. So, I felt honor and privilege to serve them.

I empathize your peeling onions.

Happy holidays,

Chin

Chin, Thanks for the share and being there for our vets and families. I was lucky to provide tours to WWII vets at one of my commands and it was incredible what they accomplished. Jay

My dad, Robert Tenopir, was a U.S. Army POW guard in Texas. And had to translate Czech for those POWs that were conscripts from the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia. Those were the first POWs from North Africa in 1943 and on.

John, Thanks for sharing and your fathers service. Jay

I won't give his name, but my maternal grandfather served during WWII. The horrors of the war devasted him. He rarely spoke about it. My grandmother raised 5 kids almost entirely alone. Hard times. They were wonderful people and I miss them. God bless our vets.

Gena, Thanks for saluting your grandfather and grandmother. Military service is a family affair. Jay

We owe so much to all the brave men and women worldwide that served or made the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedom during that time period.
Jerome

Jerome, Thanks for the comments and our thanks goes out to all that served and families. Jay

Amen and Amen! Thanks Jay. Can hardly show a blog that Deb and I have in the works. Thanks for the Great Reminder.
Bless You,
Sam and Deb

Sam and Deb, Appreciate the visit and the comments. Looking forward. Jay

My grandfather who raised me, Major John H Morgan Jr, served as a pilot on the North Atlantic Wing during WWII.

My father, John H Morgan III, (sorry I don't know his rank) served several tours of duty in Vietnam.

Anita, many thanks for your grandfathers, fathers, and families sacrifice. Jay

Thank you Jay! My 5th great uncle came over here and ended up fighting for our independence. He was fairly well know...Brigadier General Daniel Morgan. He won the Battle of Cowpens. You could say it runs in the family.

So appreciated and amazing how much has been given. Jay

The Arizona memorial is absolutely beautiful. We saw it when we were in Hawaii for our 50th anniversary. When we were there they told us there were 4 survivors remaining and they all wanted to be cremated and their ashes placed in the Arizona when they died. There is a beautiful ceremony for them and their families. I got some great pictures that I will always treasure. I have the greatest respect for all those who served in the armed forces during WW II. One of my uncles served during the war. My husband was a child in Norway when the German's occupied it. He has told me all about life then. Glad I was raised here in the USA. Thanks for your post.

Patricia, thanks for stopping by and sharing. It is incredible how the world came together to battle fascism and everyone was impacted although many gave all. Jay

Jay,
Great idea...hardly any news mentioned it. My Dad was a vet and lucky enough stay state side but it was service he was proud of all his life.
Debbie

Debbie, much appreciation to your father and it was well beyond those that served and within our boundaries. Jay

My hats off to him Jay. That hedgerow area was murder!

Mike, we owe those that were home and abroad for so much. Jay
