Decisions, Decisions - Blog Challenge Day 2 of 7

My adventure in South Carolina continues and I am counting down the days until I get home. Two (2) full days in South Carolina remain and Thursday I travel home.

I miss my bride of thirty (30) plus years, my two (2) legged kids who are young adults and my three (3) fur babies. Traveling during the week is acceptable but not on weekends.

Tonight, I enjoyed an almost Paleo meal of chicken wings, shrimp, and vegetables for supper (dinner). it is tough eating out Paleo so I try to stay in motels with kitchenettes.

Wings, Shrimp & Veges

Today was an accomplishing but non-accomplishing day at the 9 to 5. The new site manager we hired started which is a plus but progress was limited since it was a Monday.

Perhaps tomorrow will be more accomplishing since we will be digging deeper into operations but perhaps it will not. My money is on not.

My laptop continued in its wonky ways with the charge/discharge issue but I believe it will last until I get home. I stopped by Batteries Plus and received a "No Go" on a replacement battery.

Nearly two (2) years ago I started my journey into consulting and my present position after leaving the company I worked for sixteen (16) years.

Where I worked for 16 years.

This period has been extremely challenging since our income was almost cut in half. You deal with it and burn through savings as required.

Today, a company I have dreamed of working for offered me a position. So now I have a decision, decision situation.

When you are fifty plus going on fifteen, the opportunities seem to be less plentiful so tonight my family and I are discussing the pros and cons.

Clock Is Ticking!!!

The opportunity will not impact my long-term goals at WA but will move me from the small business back to the corporate arena.

I have five (5) days to make a decision but believe I have already decided that the new opportunity puts me in a better position long term for meeting my goals including WA.

Thanks for listening to me and I do appreciate your support.

Wishing you health, safety, and success. Sometimes being fifty plus going on fifteen throws you for a loop.

Hi, Jay. Where are you in SC? You're close to my neck of the woods in a way. I live in the western tip of NC, in the Smokies.
Would accepting the new job entail a move to SC? Good luck with your decision.

It sounds like you are leaning toward accepting the position. Sometimes when one door closes, another one opens. Maybe that's it for you. Seems like a good idea to have the steady income offered to you while you're building your WA business on the side.

Let us know what you decide.

Carol

Carol, I did decide yes after consulting with my family and it will allow me to live in MO but travel nationwide during the week. I will be home every weekend so that is good and will drag my bride of 30 plus years with me when she wants to go.

Thanks and more to come. Jay

Congrats on your new income stream, Jay! Your bride is lucky to be drug along when she wants to be and not have to move. Where do you live in MO? I lived in St. Louis for 20 years. Moved there to complete my degree in occupational therapy at Washington University, had a job lined up from one of my internships before I graduated, so stayed until moving to FL in 89 to put my son in a school that specialized in bright kids with learning differences. (Whew! There's a run-on sentence for ya!) Good luck in your new job and your traveling lifestyle. Carol

Carol, waiting for background checks, etc... slow going. We are in the Springfield area. Been there for 10 years and love it. Jay

Glad you don't have to move. Good luck with your new venture. Carol

Thanks again Carol. Jay

Thumbs up on the wings, shrimp, veggies and the job!

I voluntarily retired way too early and have found I do not enjoy living off half the income I'm used to enjoying as much as I thought I could.....Im going back to work too. Will continue with WA on the side as well...We gotta do what we gotta do...No reason we can't do both. Web site is not going to give me freedom I want to live like I want any time soon....

Keep working on it as a side line for the future...you are doing great so far Jay! Congrats! No doubt you will be set when you are ready to finally retire! Hopefully, I will too!

You're a winner! (Even if you can't spell APPLE)! ;-)

I retired involuntarily after my neck went south on me and I couldn't do my job any more. Was only 51 at the time and had planned to work until I was 70. Talk about blowing through savings! I didn't go to 1/2 the salary I had before, but NONE of it. But things are better now 20 years later. I've got WA now!
Carol

Oh dang... I have some health issues so I may find it difficult and sitting behind a desk all day is not good. I'm glad to know it worked out for you and I'm not giving up on WA. Hopefully, it will help me better prepare for next "retirement" round.

Cindy, I did also from the Navy in 96 and was hoping I would complete my professional career where i was for nearly 20 years.

We do need to be happy and that includes all types of challenges.

BTW... I choose to not spell apple but I do have pineapple down. Jay

I hear ya!

Carol, ouch and I understand blowing through savings. My nest egg was gone in months and that is one of the reasons I want to develop WA since i do not plan on retiring, only slowing down. Jay

Cindy, we appear to have a similar long-term plan. Jay

You only live once so go where your heart is taking you. Your heart will never leave you stranded.

Dale, so very true and thanks. Jay

You'll make the right choice Jay. Thanks for sharing.

Alex, the right choice is always the choice you make. sometimes the choice just doesn't work out. Thanks, Jay

Great article!!

Appreciate your comments and taking the time to read. Jay

Hi! Jay,
Glad to see the better days are coming your way despite some real issues like the laptop and possibly sciatica, remain.

I wish the best to come,

Chin

Chin, Thanks and ready to take a little downtime over the Christmas/New Years holiday. Jay

Yes, you deserve it.

In touch and best to you and family,

Chin

Yes Jay, I was screaming "take it" never know where it will lead you. Opportunities can be sign posts.
You must be really good at what you do, a good worker I reckon.
Wishing you a safe journey home and a great big welcome from all your "family"
Cheers Jae

Jae, Thanks and it is a great opportunity. The family says yes so the decision is pretty well made. Jay

Yay!

You just have to keep climbing the next mountain even if it hurts! This will get you over the top but only if you do those things you have to do to really make it!

Lee, Thanks. I have climbed many a mountain but always for someone else. Time to climb it for me. Jay

That wings shrimp and vegies: I`ll buy that 4 A Dollar!

Thanks, I made a butter, ranch dressing, red hot sauce. The ranch dressing was my cheat. Jay

U gat dribbling man !!!!!!!

Best wishes to you! It is always a challenge to make decisions, especially such big ones! Follow the one that gives you and your family the most peace.

Amanda, Thanks and appreciate your point. I have been on the road or at sea most of my adult life so it is time to slow down a little. Jay
