SWOT analyse
When you look at your competitors and your own position within Google rankings, or whether you just started out on a new website, making a SWOT analyse can give you an idea where you are in the market of your choosing.
SWOT
SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. It is a method from the classical marketing books and helps us understand in what ways we can differentiate from our competitors or where we are having a chance in the market.
Strengths and Weaknesses belong to the internal process and Opportunities and Threats to the external process.
An internal process means here that it has to do with your company or with you as a person. The external process is the outside world.
Strengths:
A strength is what you are strong in/at. Or your company will be strong at. What you and your employees have as strength and can work with.
It is for example a strength that you have Wealthy Affiliate as backup for all the knowledge about how to run a website and fill it with SEO optimized content.
It is also a strength that you got a community to back you up. Even more so you got a hosting platform that takes care of the stuff for you.
If you know quite a lot about that one hobby that you chose as your niche, then that is also a strength.
Weaknesses:
Everything that you are not strong in/at, is your weakness. Perhaps it is a weakness that you are not a pro at building websites, writing articles and doing SEO yet. Nor do you know how to proper marketing on your website to get people to buy stuff from you.
A weakness is also when you actually don't know that much yet about your niche and got to do a lot of research. But this is not something to be demotivated about, it can actually help you understand on which area's you need to work - so that they become strengths instead.
Opportunities:
Everything that you could do better then your competitor is an opportunity. Everything that you got more advantages in or knowledge about is it too.
Having a very specific niche and target group is an opportunity.
Writing for long tail keywords that have a lot of searches/visits is also a big opportunity.
Threats:
Got many competitors that are ranking big time for all sorts of keywords, even low hanging fruit ones then you have a threat spotted.
There are probably more examples, but I think you get the picture.
