Crazy? Business Idea: Selling Socks

While I was going over the newspapers (Norwegian) for a bit in my spare time between writing my reviews and an article, I found this crazy new business idea of someone here in Norway.

In Norway we got actually many bloggers that do affiliate marketing. A good number of them are ladies that blog about their clothing and lifestyle. It is so popular among the young Norwegian girls, that they have created a TV series based upon it. "Bloggerne" in other words "The Bloggers" it is called.

A top list of bloggers in Norway is to be found at:

Anyway, I am going away from my original story. So I got into the article on a person named Sarah who is selling used socks on the internet.

You read that right.. sweaty.. week-long worn socks. Urgh. Yuck.

I mean.. I've heard about all sorts of fetish type undergarments being sold to pervy men on the internet, but this one was rather unusual and in my eyes... a more normal thing to sell. Just.. that used socks sounds still a bit pervy.

All I can say is that this girl under the name Sarah (its a pseudo name, pretty logical when you end up in the more obscure business side of things), is making quite the buck on these socks.

Anywhere between 50 USD and 500USD per pair.

She used Ebay, As she gets thrown out of Ebay often, because Ebay doesn't allow the sales of Fetish Items on their normal portal. Ebay has also an adult sales portal apparently (never knew that haha).

She recently decided to change to use her own shop instead of using Ebay that controls what can be sold or not.

Anyway, not more to say then to give the link to it (not that most of you can read it here) and to say that I laughed hard when I read this.

Well Steven, I did think at first that no, not crazy as you can never have too many socks. That was until I read your blog and I can think on nothing worse than buying someone's sweaty, smelly, week long worn socks. I mean who in their right mind really wants to do this lol. xxxx

nobody right in the mind. But apparently just crazy or just very fetish focused people.

Nah lets not judge them. Everyone to their own liking

You are right Steven, not worth judging them as we are all different and what suits one doesn't always suit another and as they say "everyone to their own". xxx

WEIRD!!

VERY!

Smutty to buy used socks!

hehe. I prefer the new ones.

Yuckers.

Indeed.

I hardly believe what I am reading. Can people be as crazy as that?
Anyway, thanks for sharing. We need to know the world we are living and building our busines at.:)

yeah and some people actually make money with all sorts of crazy stuff as it seems.

Hmm..haven't seen an affiliate program yet for used socks hahaha

Still have some hope in humanity...hope you won't see...lol:))

Wow...I guess there is a market for everything. It makes me wonder if I could start selling some random thing, rocks, sticks, whatever!

or home made cat nip toys. Yes definitely you can. I am not all that crafty, but I think I would look into some merchandise that fits with my niche site and I could basically start selling that.

The major downer with brick and mortar businesses like that is that you would have to do all the shipping etc, but locally you could of course try to make some money in your home city or at a bazaar/conference while making your brand known too.

Other then that you could go for dropshipping if you find a good product. That way you don't have to have inventory and do shipping.

Steven

But instead of dropshipping wouldn't an affiliate with a good commission be better unless I actually made a product myself?

I don't have time for all that now, maybe someday. I am struggling just to write posts...if I did this full time I would definitely find a way to make my own products though! For now I have a good job and need to keep it!

I used to make jewelry, do some art but never got too good, painted glass vases etc. so I wouldn't mind.

When I was a kid I actually did make catnip mice for my cat!

I'm sure rock niche will do.

got a domain for rocks so should perhaps start on that sometime soon lol.

Hey, Swangirl...do you remember, years ago, the guy that invented the "pet rock" and made millions?

correct

That's interesting.
I once travelled to Oslo long back in early 1990s. What a lovely country!

Thanks. Yes Norway is really beautiful! I love it.

Such socks might be essential in the cold of Norway!

they are definitely essential in this country, but this girl is wearing them for over a week and then selling them in airtight bags to all sorts of people in the world, including to USA for 30 usd or (much) more.

I laughed a lot when I read this. It's amazing what people come up with. Last year I saw someone selling biological wood for the oven.. what could the tree possibly have been eating before they took it down and made it to burning wood? hahahaha

No thanks, lol.

no indeed not. But it was a good laugh.

Well, that is a unique business idea. Personally, I wouldn't pay that much for new socks much less used ones.

haha I agree. But it is though a thing. Even worse, in Japan it is way more usual.. they even have vending machines for used undies.

Yuck...

OMG...seriously?
