Does it Count? The Cut and Paste Delima

My Dilemma- What To Do?

Does a cut-and-paste job to create additional content - notice I didn't say new content - count?

One of the primary goals is to get content, a lot of content, on our websites. This makes sense to me and I'm all in with this need.

There is more than one way to accomplish this task I think. Not trying to game the system just to fill out a scanty website structure with valuable content as quickly as possible.

Work smart and hard!

In an effort to get a lot of content on my website quickly I created a 6,000 word blog. It took several days but I thought it would be worth the effort.

This mega blog provides an overview of about 20 products in 4 different categories.

I cut the big blog into four smaller blogs one for each of my primary website menu categories.

Now I can create more developed individual reviews and side-by-side product reviews and some basic content is already written.

Not a bad approach I thought. But it raises some questions.

Do The Ends Justify The Means?

I need to explain in the abstract.

I created 2 side-by-side reviews one of Red product and Blue product and the second review of Yellow product and Green product. Then I can cut-and-paste them together creating a total of 6 side-by-side reviews with minimal writing.

Now I have the following 6 side-by-side reviews:

  1. Red and Blue (original review)
  2. Yellow and Green(original review)
  3. Yellow and Red (cut-and-paste together)
  4. Yellow and Green (cut-and-paste together)
  5. Green and Red (cut-and-paste together)
  6. Green and Blue (cut-and-paste together)

The Result

With minimal work and little writing I have helped fill out my website menu structure with six new reviews. I should mention that I do change the images from post to post so they are not the same.

I believe people want to easily compare the two products they are considering side-by-side.

So, this seem to be helpful information that readers would want and it helps me by getting more content on my website. Two birds with one stone so to say.

My Question

Now when I look at my word count for the month or my post count for the month, do I count them all as new? Do I only count the first two posts and consider the other four as good byproducts of the original work?

I think they should all count as both new word and post count.

To be honest I'm not so caught up in the word count.

You can write 600 words that have little value or impact or 300 works that are very impactful. So word count is not very important to me.

What is important is to put up a website that helps readers understand the difference between products and make an informed choice that helps them meet their individual needs.

Hahaha loved the graphics

thanks

Hey, I create my content on Grammarly, then then paste it into site content to publish and then use my site dashboard to add what I need to add.

After reading this it seems like you are making yourself a lot of extra work for nothing...

I prepare my content in note form first, away from my PC, read it, then transfer it to Google drive and from there to site content, before publishing

I do this to get quality content out, add to my following, to further build my list and monetize it

hope this helps

you need to see the site. i beginning to think I'm just spinning my wheels

Without seeing it Steve, it sounds like you are making more work than you need to for yourself.

actually I thought it was a way to lighten the load and get more posts up quicker

We all have our own ways of working smarter to lighten the load. It may well be it works for you : )

Perhaps I am slightly old school in as much as I am focused on producing quality content, possibly 1 may be 2 posts a day and building my own list, through promotional efforts because without the list, everything else is a waste of time, as you have no place to monetize it

me too. it is all my content and format. i just know from my own experience that if I'm considering two products I want to see a side-by-side head-to-head comparison .

I've read every similar review going 6 or 7 pages deep on Google and in my slightly :) biased opinion my reviews are better for original content and ease of reading visual format.
I've been focused on writing good content and I'm just getting to the list building part.

my website is listed on the bottom of my bio - take a look

I will do Steve, and I'll give you feedback as well, if thats okay.

It might just be, but I keep things simple ; 0

GREAT Thank you

Your welcome I did send you a PM as well Steve. I have to go out of my office now, but will check on my return and will have my smart phone with me as well.

i replied and included the link. no hurry. thanks

good luck with it
Jerry

Surely you would end up with duplicate content? I get what you have done and it is a good idea, but if you just copy and paste red 3 times as in your example, google will surely see it as duplicate despite it being with different duplicate content each time.

I wouldn't do that. If Google gets the idea you just scrape content from others, you will get penalized. If others complain that you keep using their content, you could get de-listed as a site. Not worth it. Plus many merchants also check to see if you have duplicate content, and if you do you may not be accepted into the network or the program. Lots of consequences - better to take the time to write original content yourself.

I think you misunderstood.
It's ALL my original content especially the format of the blog elements. I'm just pulling the content together in different configurations.

So you are cutting and pasting your content into multiple articles? Yup, duplicate content penalties would still be a factor. Still not all original - Google doesn't like that.

yes I get the message. :(
