How To Avoid the 3 Most Common Affiliate Mistakes

Hi to everyone from Adelaide in South Australia who reads this post.

Of the tens of thousands of people who are members here at Wealthy Affiliate, I wonder how many will be able to resonate with what I have posted below!

If you are reading this post then you have already avoided the 3 most common Affiliate mistakes!

What this post will do is act as a reminder that YOU HAVE CHOSEN the best AFFILIATE PRODUCT in the world to be associated with. I sometimes think there might be a few WAers who have forgotten why they joined Wealthy Affiliate in the first place...and not only that...HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS IS THE BEST TRAINING IN THE WORLD FROM THE 2 PEOPLE WHO CREATED THE PROGRAM!

If we were all in a room, I wonder how many people would put their hands up if asked...AREN'T YOU GLAD YOU FOUND AFFILIATE AFFILIATE!

Mistake Number 1:

Choosing the wrong affiliate.

Many people want to earn money from affiliate marketing programs as fast as they possibly can. Without thinking about what they're doing, let alone doing any market research, the new 'shiny' product is going to create the overnight success they are promised. They choose the product they think is in huge demand without actually considering if the product personally appeals or is appropriate to their niche . This is not a very clever thing to do!

Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, try to choose a product in which you are at least interested in, and then consider your target market and do some research!. For you to succeed, there is a huge NEED for you to take some time and formulate your plan and then figure out exactly how you are going to market the product.

Pick a product that appeals to you. Then do some research about that product to see if it is in demand. A quick google search or Google Adwords search is going to give you a pretty quick answer...but that is only a small step towards what you need to find out. Always remember, promoting a product you are passionate about is easier than promoting one for the sake of hopefully earning a few bucks. One of the worst things you can do from the start is, damage your credibility or the trust you have built up with your customer database.

Mistake number 2:

Joining too many affiliate programs.

I'm GUILTY of this one! Let me tell you from experience...STICK WITH ONE AT A TIME! You do not want to confuse your clients or for that matter...YOURSELF!

Since affiliate programs are fairly easy to join, you might be tempted to join several affiliate programs at the same time in the hope of generating more profits faster. True, it's great to have multiple sources of income. However, joining multiple programs and attempting to promote them all at the same time will end up in disaster for you. I speak from experience! Concentrate on one at a time and give each affiliate program the respect it deserves! As mentioned earlier on...plan plan plan...

The best technique is to proceed slowly, carefully with your eyes wide open!. There's no need to rush into things, especially with affiliate marketing. With the way things are going, the future is looking really bright and it seems affiliate marketing will be hanging around for a very long time to come!

Mistake number 3:

Not buying the product or using the service.

Here's a major mistake that just about everybody I know makes! If you can't get your hands on a FREE copy of whatever it is you want to sell... then BUY IT! Think of it as an investment in yourself and your business. If it's good enough for you to sell to someone then it's good enough for you to buy it!

As an affiliate, your main purpose is to effectively and convincingly promote a product or service and to find customers who want your product. For you to achieve this, you must be able to tell or promote to customers what this certain product and service is and how it can help them. It's true that a vast majority of the product's sales & marketing material will be supplied and there is usually more than you could ever need. But nothing will ever sound better than a personal endorsement from YOU! And don't ever forget...YOU ARE IN THE 'NEED TO BE TRUSTED' industry!

So, try the product or service personally first before you sign up as an affiliate to see if it's really delivering what it promises. If you have done so, then you are one of the credible and living testaments aware of its advantages and disadvantages. Your customers will then feel the sincerity and honesty you have and this will make the process of making a sale that much easier!

Many affiliate marketers make these mistakes every day and are paying dearly for their actions. Don't make the same costly mistakes I have made along with thousands & thousands of internet marketing hopefuls! If the job is worth doing then it's worth doing right! How many times did my parents tell me that! It really is true...

Time is the key. Take the time to research your marketing strategy and use the tools for which there are many...and a lot of them are FREE. Take your time, do your research...and then you can sit back and (hopefully) watch the sales plop into your PayPal account!!

When I finally get around to finishing the WA AFFILIATE BOOTCAMP training, I will be using the 3 big mistakes as pointers to my target markets!
