Site Security Page

Ever since WA started installing the secure site https:// option for our premium sites, I have wondered if it would be a good idea to do a Site Security page for our websites. We all have a privacy policy and probably an affiliate disclaimer if needed, but how many of us have a site security page that explicitly defines what the https:// refers to?

I have been crafting a site security page for my sites in which I have the https:// installed and they go something like this:

Our Site Security

Anytime a web page asks you for sensitive information, you need to be able to identify if the page is secure or not. The ability to recognize a secure web connection is extremely important as online fraud cases have increased substantially from year to year.

Consider this the next time you type in a password or your credit card number. You want to make sure your information is secure right? We do too at <yourdomain.com> so we have taken measures to make sure your personal information is not compromised.

You will notice two indications that our site is secure:

  1. Check for that "https" in the prefix of our web page address.
  2. Click on that "lock icon" in the status bar of your browser.

That is how you can tell our website is secure and you are safely browsing our website.

You might have a similar way of phrasing it, but I wanted to get everyone's opinion on whether or not this is a good thing to have on our secure websites.

I personally agree That this is a really good idea! People need to KNOW that they are safe on our sites. There will be no hesitation and even possible referrals because of it.

Absolutely!!

Great idea, it can only enhance the integrity of our sites to explain it to anyone who is not familiar with the https system. Thanks for sharing Steph.

You are welcome Tomas.

You are welcome Mike.

Good idea Steph. I hadn't thought about!

You are welcome Bill

Of course it is. Secure websites, either have the https or the green lock bar in my case. I use Firefox now, and it is hard to get past them an unsecure site.

That is great!

Great idea. Thanks, Steph.

Thanks Terry!

Site security is a really important concern which is unfortunately too often realized when it's too late.
Erica

That is true.

That's a really good idea! Especially for sites that really do collect sensitive information. So far, I'm not collecting anything except email address for my auto-responder, so I haven't needed to enable SSL yet, but I love that the option is there and that it's free.

It can be really good for shopping cart sites and other similar websites.
