Short Recap of Jay's Weekly Webinar Tonight

Hello WA Family:

I watched and participated in tonight's weekly webinar with Jay (magistudios). This was not my first webinar I listened to but I thought I would give everyone a short recap of what was taught tonight for those of you unable to watch due to family or work-related matters or perhaps it is 2am your time and you need your beauty sleep.

This is by no means a complete rundown of what was said. I wrote down what I thought would be important to write in a WA blog recapping tonight's webinar. If you watched the webinar and I happened to overlook something than please feel free to add it here.

Here it goes:

  • Search Volume is how many people are using that keyword per month to find information.
  • Search Competition is how many websites that are competing for that keyword.
  • Formula for finding a good keyword. Look for Search Volume to be over 50 and Search Competition to be under 300.
  • STOP obsessing over the numbers. Too many of us do this.
  • Use keywords that a human being would use. To elaborate:
    • Embrace the long tailed keywords and use keywords that people would actually say
    • More and more people are entering keywords just as they would say them if they were talking normally.
  • The longer you rank for a long tailed keyword, the more you will rank for shorter keyword phrases.
  • WA Keyword Tool works JUST fine. It gets the job done.
  • Jay mentioned you should not feel pressured to get Jaaxy. He said to get Jaaxy only when you are ready to move to the next level. I asked him in the Q&A how do we know when the "next level" occurs. Jay said when we are making a profit can use the membership fees for Jaaxy from our profits.
  • This important - in addition to doing the keyword search using the WA Keyword, Jaaxy, etc. be sure to take time to look at the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page). Here is why:
    • You may find that a particular keyword has only five competing websites for that keyword and you need to first check the SERP to see what those five websites might be.
    • For example, you may find that Amazon is one of those websites. And they dominate ALL of the listings on the SERP. This goes for all of the big companies such as EBay, etc.
    • When examining the SERP, look for the following:
      • E-commerce Sites: Amazon, EBay, etc.
      • Authority Sites: Wikipedia, etc.
      • Strong Competitor Sites

I hope this was helpful. Also, I want to add that Jay's webinars are also available via the recorded version that you can watch at your leisure, time permitting of course.

Great recap, thanks Steph. I was registered for that webnar but missed it. Good basic stuff. Thanks again :-)

You are welcome.

Hi Steph thanks for this recap, I mist this weeks we binary. Will watch the replay and use your post while doing so. Awesome.
Alexander

I am glad it was helpful Alexander.

Hi Steph,

What about the SERP? What effect does it have on my keywords? I'm sorry I really didn't catch that. Thanks!

Jezza

Hi Jezza

With regards to SERP, after you do your keyword research with WA Keyword Tool or Jaaxy, be sure to do what is known as alphabet soup and see what the search results listing looks like when you enter that keyword phrase. Check out the other websites that appear in the Google listing when you enter that particular keyword and check out other keywords similar to it using alphabet soup technique.

Does that answer your question? Let me know if it doesn't.

Hi Steph, if after I have checked the SERP and found out that the lists are from Amazon, Ebay or in my case I am building a parenting and baby site and the lists displays from BabyCenter or parents.com will that be good or bad for my chosen keyword?

Hi Steph,
I missed the first half of my first webinar. It was very informative and overwhelming for me as I'm new member (mind=blown).
Thank you for the recap, I will try to watch the recording again when available.
Best regards
Sahbi

Hi Sahbi....I know some of the information can be overwhelming if you are a newbie. I am glad my notes helped a little.

Hey Stephhill, you did a great job. I was on the call and your notes are better than mine. Thank you!

Hi Michael. I am glad my notes were helpful. Since you were on the call, if I forgot anything, please add a comment here..... :)

Reading through this recap, I can see that it was an excellent webinar. I liked the way terms were defined...
Ed

I am glad you found value to this blog Ed. How have you been?

Thanks Steph for providing this recap.

You are certainly welcome.

Hi Steph this is great :) I missed a lot of Jay's webinar and will need some time to watch archived ones. I want to ask another question beside Aiden's one below.

If the SERP's top result is a strong competitor /big ecommerce / authority site like wiki, does that mean the keyword is good, bad, or neither for us to use? (Even if it has very low competition)

I would not say the keyword used by big companies such as Ebay is bad. It just means that you might not rank on the first page if the first page is monopolized by all of the big company's links.

Ah I see. Thanks for the great information Steph :)

Perfect Steph, I missed todays one (and a lot of the others) due to being busy.

Today I was learning about internet business making sure I've got the basics down and creating a plan to take my productivity, time management and business to the next level every day.

Are all of these webinars archived in a single place so we can watch them one after the other or something when we get the urge?

Yes Aiden. All of Jay's webinars are archived where you can spend an entire day or so listening to the ones which you are most pertinent to you. I do know how everyone's schedules are so busy this time of year. Thank you for commenting. I am glad you found the blog useful.

Where abouts are they archived?

Hi Aiden, just click on "Live video Classes" on the left when in WA. It will show you the upcoming training as well as all of the ones that have happened.

Ooo thanks heaps Tanja :D

You're welcome!

Sounds like you hit all the points Jay brought out. Good recap.

Thank you Verna.
