When Bonuses Become Distractions!

I was reading @Joes946 blog post, “Do you have time?”

Left a comment and received an email from an internet marketer which was exactly what my comment was about.

It was so timely, I thought I should share this experience since we are in the affiliate marketing business.

The email was promoting a product but giving away 66 bonuses.

Yes, you read it right. That is...

Buy 1, get 66 FREE!

In my comment to Joe’s post, I mentioned distractions that steal time away from us and we become so busy we don’t have time for what is important to us.

Did I ask for this email? No.

Was I shopping for this product? No

Would I buy this product? No.....but

66 bonuses.... sure there could be something useful there?

Tempting......

If you succumb to temptation and buy this product, what happens?

You would be distracted and have to download 67 products which you need to go through to see if they are of value to you.

If it takes you 10 minutes per item, it will create...

A Major Distraction, Stealing Away 660 minutes!

I am not saying all products or bonuses are useless distractions. Far from it...

If someone does not take the time and effort to explain how the product is going to solve a problem or meet a need, then they are hoping for one of the 66 items hit a nerve.

I would question the value of the product in the first place.

Secondly, the bonuses are overwhelming so you won’t ask for a refund because you already received so much.... what more do you want?

However, the point of this blog is we are all focus on what is important to us that requires our time and attention.

Some email that we did not ask for arrive in our inbox that has a potential of creating a major distraction.

Yes, in this case potentially 66 distractions!

This happens every day, we get messages that seem urgent and important? not just email but many other sources as well...

“What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important”

- Dwight D. Eisenhower

What are some actions we can take to avoid these distractions?

Of course, it is not possible to eliminate all sources of distractions so we need some actions we can take.

Three actions you can take are:

  • Do periodic house keeping, eg. remove things you don’t need that takes up your time / Unsubscribe to lists you no longer need
  • Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan
  • You decide what to act on, limit external factors that act on you

Hope these tips help reduce the distractions we all face daily.

Cheers,

Stanley

Wow, Stanley, you are so correct and we learn from these scams daily, if we are wide awake, but we like get-rich-quick schemes that take away(distractions - as you put it eloquently in your post) our focus from the important things and fall for them and boom we have fallen another false promise. Keep writing and encouraging!

Thank you, Stanley. I can get distracted easily. "SQUIRREL!"

Ooooh! Me!!!

Thank you, Stanley. This is great advice and a great reminder.

Great advice

Bonuses to me, are just incentives in place to help a customer buy a product.

However, if the product is no good, I would say the bonuses probably are not either.

You are absolutely right.

Too bad there isn't a 'LOVE THIS' button! Nailed it! Thank you for sharing and helping us all to focus on what is important.

Just thought some of us may face the same scenario. Thanks for your kind words.

Well said

It is absolutely true, Stanley! Thanks for this.
Regards,
Kalyan.

Very useful advices. Thanks. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan, is something I totally adhere to.
Certainly, also agree on these kind of distractions you mentioned can hurt working the plan each day.
Focus is so important in any success and affiliate marketing is no different.
Good post.

Agree, focus is important indeed. How often we get distracted and detoured from our plans?
