Do you need unplug therapy?

In this 24 x 7 always connected and always on world we live in, unplugging ourselves from it now and then may be necessary to just relax and recharge.

Just how connected we have become...

In the words of Haitian-American fashion designer Kerby Jean-Raymond,

"I'm desperately trying to unplug. The last thing I want is a watch that connects to my phone which connects to my iPad that connects to my computer that airplay to my TV."

How about you?

Are you connected online that you are not getting any rest?

Does your device buzz at night beside your bed?

Being in this business, we spend a significant amount of time plugged in.

Massimiliano Allegri, former Italian professional football/soccer player and now coach says,

"Work is important, but you also need to disconnect, to unplug at times, in order to be even more concentrated when you do work."

If you feel stressed, lacked of sleep and having difficulties to concentrate, maybe it is time for unplug therapy.

This weekend, take a short 6-hour technology and/or connectivity fast.

Take a 6 hour unplug therapy and do something you love.

You can,

  • Spend time face to face with family and friends
  • Spend time with nature, a run or hike
  • Play your favorite sport
  • Go to the symphony
  • Paint or draw by your self or with children
  • Cook that recipe you always wanted to try
  • Read a book

I am sure you get the idea and may have many ideas what you can do to unplug yourself.

In the discussion below, share what would be a good activity you can do as unplug therapy for yourself.

You can also share how unplug therapy helps you.

Wish all a WAnderful Weekend.

I get home from work, I literally toss my backpack and laptop into the closet and leave the cell phone unattended, to unwind with some of things you listed, Stanley.

And I don't lose sleep over missed text messages, emails or posts either. 👍

Thanks for the post!
Isaiah 😊

Awesome, Isaiah. We should all do that more.

Great advice Stanley. Fortunately I have not allowed my life to be dictated by my devices. I choose when to use them. I do not respond to every beep and buzz that my phone gives for example.

I schedule the time to check things out and respond accordingly.

It is sad when people are glued to their phones for example. Thanks for bringing in some sanity.

Cheers.

Edwin

You are the exception, Edwin. Good for you and we can learn from that discipline.

Great advice. It never ever ceases to amaze me to see e.g. people in the gym using Facebook etc "resting" on machines or even in the changing rooms, sometimes at the sinks, taking selfies in the mirrors, sometimes taking their phones to the shower area.

Why are people obsessed with their phones? The gym is a a place I NEVER take my phone to as I chill out. & at work its on silent. I check e.g. WA mails at my convenience, not responding to every beep!

I used to love long distance flights before Emirates introduced messaging & then phone calks using your phone on flights. We all need a break from electronic noise & distractions. Especially at night.
Prioritise & focus.

Best Regards for a brilliant weekend & great new week. Oh & keep safe Stanley, I see the Coronavirus is spreading in your neck of the woods.

Trevor

Trevor, I agree with you we should learn to leave our devices out of some spaces so we get the privacy and quiet necessary to relax and recharge ourselves.

As for the Covid19, it is general healthcare issue for the nation but we need to take the precautions and get on with our lives. The is some “over-reaction” by some people and this is to be expected.

Thanks for your comments, appreciate it.

Very good therapy suggestion! I turn my phone off when go to bed. But sometimes I have to keep it on for some important reasons. But during the day, after cooking, cleaning and praying, I can not stay unplug. I used to do yoga before and I need to develop my habit again.
Thank you for sharing.

We need to adjust to our lifestyle to maintain our health.

Absolutely Stanley! I sometimes get to the point where I think I just can’t do it any longer and I switch it all off for a few hours or for the evening because I need the break. I usually gave my Mac Book, iPad, phone and my day job laptop all open on my desk at the same time. It’s ridiculous. In my day job I work from home 2-3 times a week and the emails are relentless so I gave lots of different sounding bings going off all day! 🙄

Yes, in our digital world, we now have digital occupational hazards. This is a funny one but I will share.

For many years, I put my mobile phone in my left pocket. Today, I stopped doing that but can still feel the vibration in that part of my body.

Scary, electromagnetic interference? Is my body a conductor for EMI? Don’t know for sure but I know I am exposed to some electromagnetic radiation.

That’s scary stuff Stanley! Hopefully it stops if you keep it out of your left pocket!
