One of the type of content you learn to write here at WA as an affiliate marketer are product reviews.

So, it makes sense to ask yourself,

Is Your Review Any Good?

You may have the answer but if you have not been doing this for years and have significant data, it only raises more questions...

  • What is the benchmark of a good review?
  • Are there traffic to conversion ratios that I need to know?
  • Do my audience trust me?

Who Are You?

Knowing your role is important when you write a product review. As an affiliate marketer, you want to position yourself as a trusted and reliable bridge between product sellers (merchant) and consumers (buyers).

You want to be the first person your audience thinks of in your niche when they need advice before buying a product.

Your recommendation for any product need to solve problems, save money, address an unmet need and create better lives for your audience.

Why Do People Turn To Affiliates Instead of Directly Purchasing From Sellers?

In simple terms, why click through your link when they can go direct? It is online, therefore a click away.

Nogre's research on shopping behavior on Millennials gives us some good insights on online behavior. They discovered:

  • 84% of Millennial don't trust traditional advertising
  • Millennial and Gen Z can tell when promotions or reviews are sponsored by brands
  • Influencers are giving more authentic endorsement because they like a product, and not because of compensation

Similarly, sellers and product owners recruit affiliates to get authentic and unbiased information the market can trust.

Therefore, the effectiveness of independent product endorsements (that appear unbiased) is better than ads.

You can say, both sellers and consumers want you to be the go-to person for everything related to your niche.

It Is All About Trust

According to a recent study by Trustpilot, 84% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations from the people they know.

The results of the survey validated the fact that online reviews are an important part of the customer journey today.

More than two-thirds of respondents said they usually or regularly consulted online reviews before shelling out for a product or service.

However, they also said that not all types of reviews are equal.

How Do You Become That Trusted Person?

First and foremost, DO NOT look to sell at all cost but by thinking about the needs of your audience and promoting products that'll help them.

Be a legitimate affiliate marketer who's in business for the long-run and focus on building relationships first.

Because selling is all about trust. When people trust you, they buy from you.

To build trust, you need to:

  • Publish detailed, unbiased, and actionable content
  • Aligns the needs of your audience and pitches relevant products as solutions to their problems
  • Your content should list down the pros and cons of every product you promote and help readers make informed decisions.

The Facilitator

In summary, your job as an affiliate marketer is that of a facilitator, not a hard core product salesperson.

Create unbiased, useful, and actionable content that's based on factual information and experiences.

This, I believe is the only way to make money as an affiliate marketer in the long-run.

The only time I've ever purchased anything through an affiliate link - besides rewarding friends on WA - is when I was doing research on something, and I just happened to make up my mind while on the person's page.
Trust. Here's trust in my book. Do NOT place flashing banners all through your article and act like my salvation depends on the purchase. I'll go somewhere else for spite. *cheesy grin*

Thank you for the useful feedback. Appreciate it.

Stanley,

I will agree - people buy from those they know, like, and
trust. As online affiliate marketers, we must make sure we
engage with our audience to let them get to know us and
trust us then they will buy from us but also refer us to
others. That grows our online business.

Great job and best wishes thanks for sharing,
Susan

Thanks, Susan.

Engagement is becoming more important when there is competition.

Appreciate your comments.
