Aarghh! I got hit by the blue screen.

You are probably wondering what is this blue screen...

This is it.

Computer hardware issues are the main causes that will result in blue screens.

Windows would encounters a “STOP Error.” This event will inform Windows a critical failure has occurred and results in a crash and stop working.

There is only one solution at this point, which is to restart the computer.

Now to restart and start again. Hope It saves my work from before as I left it in sleep mode.

What does this have to do with WA?

Everything... since all my work is on this notebook.

On another note...

  • Have you business been hit by a blue screen?
  • Do you need to collect info on the problems?
  • Do you need to restart?
  • How do you restart?

Restarting is necessary but not in the same way.

The good news is Windows now has automated this process so it pops up this blue screen and fixes itself.

What about your business?

Stanley,

If I were you, I would invest in a external SSD or HDD 2.5" hard drive. The SSD hard drives tend to be a bit more because they are a newer tech. You can get one with 4TB of storage for around a $100.00.

You can get a smaller or larger storage. It depends on how much you want to spend.

You can save on a file-level basis or you can save the entire hard drive image if you ever have a catastrophic failure.

Hello Stanley,

I hope you're doing well. I have had the blue screen, but not recently, thankfully!

I'm very grateful that Windows is so much better than it was a few years ago. I remember being on Windows XP for many years and regularly having crashes and having to reboot my machine.

I would say that Windows 7 and Windows 10 are literally thousands of times better than Windows XP, which I was using until six years ago! A great improvement!

Have a good day.

Roy

You are right, Roy. The previous versions were a nightmare.

I hear you, Stanley, seriously, when I turn on my laptop I am so thankful for having a decent machine that works! What a difference it makes to have a computer that runs smoothly.

Enjoy your weekend and thank you for the blog post.

Roy

Hi Stanley,

It is important to always backup your information for issues such as you have mentioned here. Thanks for sharing so that we are aware of what can happen. I hope that you were able to save your information. I have never encountered the blue screen. Wishing you the very best!

Kind regards,
Nichola

Thanks. Nichola. Appreciate your comments.

You are welcome.

My wife has a blue screen... it says, "Hard Drive - not installed!"

It apparently crashed...so it goes now to us sharing my laptop and me not getting much done on my website when she is using my laptop.

I think we need to work out a schedule...I use it whenever I am home from work, she can use it whenever I'm not... LOL!

It actually works out to be equal time in the long run... I am taking her laptop to a repair shop tomorrow to get a new hard drive installed. I can do it myself, but trying to work on my website and do that isn't going to work out.

It just isn't compatible... time is time. If I spend it on fixing her laptop, then I won't get anything done on my website.

So, yes... I know all about blue screens... BSOD... yuck!!

I wish you the best!

Bob

Ouch, Hope your data is safe.

Some of it is... I have yet to check out our old Dell tower to see what is still on that, and we may have to run that to transfer stuff over to the laptop once the hard drive is replaced.

Most of what is on the laptop came from that old tower. The only new stuff maybe pictures of our daughter... but there is a lot on our phones as well. Plus what is on my wife's Facebook account.

Her business files for her website are on my laptop, so we are safe there.

Backups are important, and she (my wife) didn't run any backups. I will now teach her how to do that to the cloud now.

Great to back-up. I did loose a bunch of photos on old computer and CD-ROMs.

I understand the frustration when you're working on something and then suddenly your computer just shuts down or asks to be restarted. It happened to me several times mainly due to memory overload.

Thank God for the "file recovery" feature, I can always "pick up where I left off."

But having a back up file totally separate from the device we're working on is a good idea.

Yes, it is getting better at auto saving and recovery.
