Just wondering what you guys and gals have done for Prime Day. I'm interested in strategies. I have a fishing site. Any thoughts or suggestions?

That looks like a great Amazon smorgasbord Marvin!

My niche is about worldwide ethnic foods, so I am thinking of ways to promote it, since my readers are mainly coming to my site for interesting and new recipes. However, I am thinking I will do a "special" post, off topic, as a thank you for all my visitors who use the links I provide to obtain those unique and often hard to find ingredients.

Then I will lay out all the great promotions Amazon is offering, and tell them to help themselves to some great savings and deals, as a thank you from The Old Silly!

I'll also compose an email for my subscribers, alerting them to the promotion and reminding them to come to my site on Opening Day.

That sounds awesome.

I saw a promotion for media dot net and was wondering if anyone has experience using it instead of adsense?

Thanks for mentioning this resource Geoff. I'll have to check it out.

I'm increasingly concerned about bounce rate. I currently get 40 to 50 unique visits per day with about a 90% average bounce rate.

Now I'm perfectly willing to

Perhaps you can use some tips from here:

:) I will look. And I WILL like.

(: THANKS :)

You should look at the bounce rate together with how long they stay at your site.
You have a lot to read on your front page, so if they stay for a few minutes to read you should be happy even with a high bounce rate.

Thanks. Time is pretty good. I can tell when someone is actually considering a purchase. They'll spend 13 or 14 minutes on a post. Either that or they walked away from their computer. I think 3 minutes is the average + or -.

With that amount of time spent on the site, I would not really worry about the bounce rate.
You could see how you are on the returning visitor number. If they come back later, then you are ok.
But you should look into a way to lure them further in on your site. (A fishing guy should be able to find out a way to do that :-)

Lol. Hooking fish and marketing? I suppose you could draw certain similarities. I'll find a way. Thanks J.

I find your fonts just perfect. The speed is very good, no delay of any kind. Kyle was just saying recently, judge the speed by how you experience it. The delay which Marion mentioned I cannot observe. But indeed, use 'read more' button for the blog roll.

Thanks JV. I was reading that high bounce rate isn't necessarily a bad thing if people are taking the intended action.
I see some evidence of people getting there I think. It seems that adsense wouldn't record an impression if the site didn't open. But I'm just guessing on that.
40 average visits gets me about 4 or 5 average clicks to amazon each day. 10%. And bounce rate is close to 90%. That doesn't seem too good to me.

But maybe I'm wrong.

10-12% is not bad at all.

I also have the bounce rate around 80% and this has been from the beginning. Nothing helped. Just see what I did:
- Changed theme from 20-10 with a very small font to Metro Pro where I made it very big, no change in bounce rate at all.
- Earlier I was shy and used links cautiously, and only close to the end of the text, by the book, as suggested in training. Having no sales I started with call to action, both at the beginning and at the end. No change at all regarding bounce rate.
- Did many other small things, internal links are always there, from new to old and from old to new post. No effects.
- Earlier I used YARP plugin with 4 icons of related posts at the bottom. After 1 year I removed it because of the speed issue. This had no effect on bounce rate at all.
- I have comparison tables in all posts, so a lot of internal linking. This does not help.

So I accept it as it is. My click rate is around 12-15%.

I have also read that high bounce rate is not necessarily a bad thing, people find what they came for and then they go, so fine.

I am also using 20-16 in one site, and one reason is that it has so great fonts. This is a beautiful theme. But Marion says it is too big, so this is the matter of taste, one cannot argue about it.

It's the speed (6 seconds to load) and the huge font. It's way too big to read comfortably. I suggest a font size similar to the text on this page at WA.

Thanks Marion. That really helps.

One more thing Geoff, You've got a lot of full length posts on your home page. Have you considered using excerpts with the read more tag?

I have. I think I'm struggling with Twenty Sixteen. For now, free themes will have to do. Is there another one you recommend?

I did get $90 from you, which I really appreciate. I just wasn't able to apply it to a premium theme. Hope Dreamhost is working out.

Yes, I'm very happy with DreamHost. I've referred 4 people there myself - one a month for the last 4 months. I'm upgrading to a VPS.

Some really good themes at https://www.cryoutcreations.eu/ lots of customization options when you use their plugin. I also like Sydney and, because I like tweaking the settings, I'm making Weaver Xtreme jump through some hoops. It looks like an ugly duckling but I'm turning it into a swan.

Ha ha. Thanks Marion. You're a great marketer. Now I'm going to have to click all over the place to figure out what you're talking about. :)

Wouldn't it help to show what we mean instead of just asking a question?

There is a good deal of solid information for you in this entire discussion...glean through it and find that which app;lies the best...it's all HERE...

If you did not have enough, here is yet another training

Wait a minute. The pencil button is what I used and no way to place an image. May have to set me straight or correct your training.

Read till the end of page 4, it is not so long.

Right. Thanks JV.

Hey JV. Check this out. Maybe you can get on there and ask the developer?

Thank you. I think we should have help from WA because we installed the plugin following WA recommendation from the official course. This was not my own initiative, and there are many with the same issues.

I removed the plugins because they did not work, and they caused many errors, and now I have even more issues after removing it. My stomach is not strong enough to communicate with them. But I appreciate your suggestion.

Perhaps the disadvantages should have been explained at the very beginning of the webinar. It's easy to second guess. Hindsight has 20/20 vision.

I do see your point about getting help from WA.

I've wondered that myself, Geoff.

Make sure you read Loes answer.

I did and read her training.

You can, but you need to take another road/ lesson 2

Cool. Good to know. Thanks Loes.

You're welcome Geoff

Just viewed your training, Loes. Good stuff!

Oh sorry. Went back to the training and hit the like button.

Thanks, did you "like" it too?

I did. I know what that means. I just forget simetimes since I don't do trainings.

Thanks:) I do training, and I "like" to get paid for it:))

That is a good point, but a question it a question. You can use a link to show a image or another source to get your point across.

Has anyone else experienced this after installing the AMP plugin? Did it straighten out? Thanks. :)

some plugins just need to be Unplugged...

This is not so. I have done this and after that have 215 amp errors and they grow every day. Nobody knows why.

I too got rid of the plugin it is more hassle than it is worth. Plus, my site looked fine before on mobile platforms. That is one thing I look for when I pick my theme I make sure it is mobile friendly. I really do not see the point of the AMP plugin. Do you?

I absolutely do. It's all about page speed. AMP opens in a split second.

I noticed a lot of people were missing that main point in Jay's webinar too. Mobile responsive just means the theme will transforn well to a mobile size. It has nothing to do with speed.

My 2016 theme is mobile responsive but the code is bulky and takes forever to load on mobile. Speed score of 64.

Yes, I get that it is supposed to make it open in like a nano second. And, I think everyone has to weigh the pros and cons of the plugin. Because we all have different sites and plugins so everyone's results will be different. I know some people that love it and have not had an issue with it at all. Geoff, great point though the purpose is the speed. Have a great day :)

No you bring a valid point too and I get that. Thanks for sharing.

I have far over 200 errors, missing AMP pages, although I removed the rubbish plugin already in January. My errors are growing every day and they will never stop until all my posts are listed as errors. Nobody knows what to do. Asked everybody.

Yikes.

Maybe I should have looked for a different solution to my 64 mobile speed score.

Thanks for sharing Jovo.

Many others have removed amp due to the same initial errors which I had, and after removing it, we now have these new errors (404 amp pages missing), but it appears I am the champion so far.

Appears at best headed for further evaluation!

I think I know what you mean, but not very clear.

I removed AMP after a week.
While my Analytics were fine during that time, there were too many things I couldn't do with it.

Now, after removing AMP, I have many "not found" errors...because all those AMP pages are still indexed in Google.
I hope this will "straighten out" after a while.

I really can't recommend AMP, especially if you have disclaimers and ads on your site.

You can add all that stuff to AMP pretty easy.

Show me how to add a text widget to the footer. ;)

Amazon wants us to display their disclaimer on every page that has affiliate links on it.
I do this by displaying their disclaimer in a text widget in the footer.

Since AMP removes those widgets, I couldn't find an easy fix for it.
And I won't add the disclaimer manually to over 100 posts.

You're right. I thought it was under design options. It requires code in the php file or use another plugin.

It's called AMP Footer Widgets. I'm installing now.

It worked perfectly. Once activated you just go to appearance > widgets. You'll see 3 new AMP footer widgets. Add what you want. Whatever your theme offers in the way of widgets.

Thanks for testing.
I might give it another try. :)

We'll see how it goes. I hate to go backwards now. 3 more Plugins in all with AMP now.
