Me being a personthat uses the Internet for business purposes, I tend to ask mydaughter what she enjoys doing online.

One of the things I noticed is her new social network sites that she likes to use.

Since my daughter is the next generation that makes the trends, when I talk with my daughter about her online activities, I would bring up Facebook and other soical network sites.

When I bring up Facebook, she always looks at me with that smirk look on her face and says, no one uses Facebook anymore, mom!

But is that so…

I Do Observe My Daughter

I would go into herroom and talk to her and see with my own eyes that she is on FB.

I know she doesn’t mean it literally, being that I see her on FB with my own eyes occasionally.

Since I can’t take what my daughter says literally, I like to observe what she does online.

A lot of times, I hear here laughing and talking and I know for a fact that there is no one in her room.

If you hear your children doing that, you kind of gotta peek and see what is going on.

What she is doing is talking to people online.

It is growing trend and she enjoys it more than drawing.

I know this because I noticed she isn’t drawing as often as she used to.

Of course, you don’t know my daughter.

Her biggest hobby ever since she was a little girl was to draw.

She draws on paper, on the computer and anything she could find.

So when she put her new social networking hobby in front of her drawing, I knew that this latest social network platform is not going away any time soon.

Get To The Point Evelyn, I Don’t Have Time To Read All Of This

Alright, geez, I’m a mom and when it comes to my children, I like to talk about them.

My children are my stars and any time I could talk about them, I will, Lol.

Anyways, this new social network platform is VR Social Networking.

What Is VR Social Networking Platforms?

It is a virtualreality social platform she likes to use VR Chat and Alt Space.

It is where people go online, make avatars and chat with one another live.

The best way I can describe it is like that game Sims, yet, you are the one moving around and talking to real people in real time.

I Decided To Go On There And Speak To The People She Chats With Live

Even though my daughter is grown now, I still gotta know what she’s doing.

I have to keep up with her life because that’s what moms do, Lol.

Anyways, the first time I chatted with people on VR, what happened was, she left her room and as I was putting on her VR device, she came back into her room and looks at me and said, "what are doing?"

I felt like the child for just a moment with a busted look on my face.

I said, “I want to go on here and chat with your VR friends!”

She said, “Okay!"

When I put on the device, it was interesting.

I saw avatars and they all had their own unique swag.

It was quite interesting to be in there because it is very Virtual Reality.

I say that because when people are walking around and talking to you...

When you have the headset on, it feels like they are really at the spot they should be.

Meaning, if they are behind you talking to you, it really feels like they are behind you.

Then I said, “Hi!”

Then there was this one guy with a very deep voice and he said, “Hi!”

I said, “who are you? Your voice is so deep?” “Your voice doesn’t represent your avatar!”

Everyone said at the same time, “OMG! You sound just like your daughter!” Lol.

And then there was another guy who gave me a hug!

I didn't know how to manuver in there and they felt so close and I said, "can you guys move back a little, I need my space."

They moved back, I felt odd because I was totally new to this along with avatars and just not knowing who I’m literally talking to.

My social network skills at my time were actually talking to people face to face, no Internet, none of that!

It was brief and I said my goodbye’s.

About a week later I thought I’d ask my daughter about this VR social thing and I thought I'd blog about it in here.

My Interview With MyDaughter

I asked my daughter first, what do you like about this VR stuff?

She said, “I like it because I can actually socialize with people who really don’t fully know who you are. I can create an avatar that represents me and I can speak to people more easily.”

Do you like it more than Facebook?

She said, “mom, no one uses Facebook anymore, yes I like it more than Facebook. No other social platform can’t compare to VR.”

I asked her what about those likes and shares?

She said, “You can use an emoji to express your likes. It goes up in the air and disappears.”

I asked her, “what she doesn’t like about VR”

She said, “Making new avatars can be annoying because it takes time to make.”

So I asked her, “can I ask her friends questions?”

She said, “Sure!”

I asked her friends,“do they like VR more so than any other social platform?”

Each one of them said, more or less...

Yes, for the time being!

I asked why?

Each said more or less...

It is easier to social network than on other social sites!

I put on the VR Gadgets and I talked with them again!

“I asked them, what do you like to do in VR?

Most of them said, they like to make avatars and talk about it. They like to help each other improve their avatars and figure out VR hacks.

I asked them, “do they draw as a hobby?”

They said, “no!”

I asked them, "have your parents put on the VR headset?"

One person said, “their dad got sick and their mom thought it was pretty cool.”

Then I got curious and asked their ages, I found out, no one was over 30 and most live at home.

Then I asked where is the person that my daughter mentions all the time and he comes flying in and says, “here I am!”

I said, “where is my hug!”

He gives me a big VR hug and I said my goodbyes and left.

For Me

It’s not my thing because everyone is so young in there.

If there were groups of people that had the same interest as me like...

Such as...

  • Parents with specialneeds children
  • Football
  • Internet marketing
  • My shows
  • Food
  • God

I think I would be in there from time to time.

At This Point InTime, I Feel It Is An Expensive Trend

To use a good quality VR device, it is expensive. I feel it may go down in price like everything does eventually.

You need some good speed on your computer to use such device because it can get glitchy.

It could run you $500 for the device.

Most people who use VR devices use a gamer computer because the memory and ram.

Even though VR is not perfectly executed, it is a new way that people are communicating.

There are games out that people play.

The coolest game I saw online was a Star Trek game.

The game was interesting because a group of people were on the same team trying todefeat the enemy to get to the next level.

Then there places you can go to.

There was a very cool place my daughter showed me tha twas under water.

People create their own home. My daughter says that you can tell the low quality from theg ood quality of each place you go to.

You can also make each place you go to private if you choose to.

I could see it becoming the new way of communication because it’s the closest you will get to communicate without ever literally being in the same room as someone else.

Nothing Beats Meeting People In Person

In my opinion, I’d rather talk with people up front.

Anyways, I could goon and on about VR, but my time is limited and I have other things to take care of.

What are your thoughts on the new way people are communicating online?

Is VR your thing or not?

Do you feel that the next generation makes the trends?

Do you see the old social network platforms integrating VR into their platform?

I would love to read your thoughts, so don't hesitate to leave a comment below, thanks!

My granddaughter said "Instagram" and that "no one uses FB anymore" but she's still on it and I know it's not just to communicate with me! VR is pretty fun though. It's like you can reach out and really touch people and places.

I don't know why kids say that no one uses FB anymore yet they are on there, LOL.

I'm assuming it's not their favorite social network place but, they go in there from time to time.

As for VR it is fun. It's a totally different type of way to communicate with people. I do have to admit it does make my stomach turn. I'm not in there all the time, but it's pretty cool.

Thanks for your thoughts Debbie, all the best!

Map it all to instagram and you can get a pretty good idea of their likes!

Hey Michael, I don't use Instagram it's not my thing, but I'm sure you are correct with. Thanks for your thoughts!
