My 12 Year Old Son Made His First $190 Online

Last Update: July 26, 2019

Yes My 12 Year Old Son Made His First $190 Online. It started with a bit of a lecture LOL..

My sons spend a lot of time playing around on the Internet, but never seemed to think about using it as a tool to create an income. As I do not like being pushed around I try not to be too pushy with my kids.

One day I couldn't keep it in any more and I told them a few things and for once a couple of them at least seemed to listen.

So my second youngest son who is twelve has been playing some games online and has traded a lot of virtual things on his account.

So after my little pep talk he found a website where he can sell his virtual online gaming rewards and started listing a lot of them, in one evening he listed a total of $400 of stuff.

And in his first evening he made his first two sales $25, Now a few days later his listings have made him a total of $190 in sales and he continues to add more stuff to sell.

I hear adults all the time talking about how difficult it is to make money online is, the truth is with a little bit of imagination and some effort. Anyone can make money online you just need need to find out what is working or what is selling and take some action steps.

The thing is if a 12 year old can create a few listings on a website and make $190 in a few days so can you . What are you waiting for.

Definitely an entrepreneur in the making!
It's all to easy for parents to lecture their kids about the time they spend online. 'In my day we used to climb trees, ride our bikes and build dens', etc, etc!
But imagine how much more online success we parents could be having now if we grew up with the internet as our kids are doing?
I'm looking forward to introducing my two Boys (age 9 and 11) to the world of online business, so they never have to go out and be wage slaves.
A big 'Well done' for you and your Son!
Cheers
Rich :-)

Absolutely fair play to him. An entrepreneur like his dad! My 12 year old son plays games online a lot (Fortnite and Roblox mainly).
He asked me to ask you what games your son plays that enable him to sell his rewards.

Hope you don’t mind me asking

All the best

Thank you for asking this. My grandies play a lot, as well; Roblox, I know, but I'm not sure what others. I was wondering the same thing 'bout where he sold 'em, but it jus' never occurred to me to actually Ask. Haha

I am sure he plays or played those not sure which ones he was selling yet. Will see if I can find out when he is awake.

Kudos to both you AND your son! I'm pleased to know that he found a place where he can sell his virtual online gaming rewards. an' is making some extra cash for himself.

I wonder if he realizes that he could use one of your 25 websites to build his own website an' earn on WA? My nine year old grandson is working on his own website an' having a ball, doin' it.

It's nice to meet you. I'm thrilled that your son has a dad who is willing to encourage his children to believe in themselves. Keep up the great work.

Warmly,
~ Yaya

What a great lesson you taught them! I have a young gamer who is savvy like that as well and we have been talking about different ways to help him harness some of that to help him make some money for himself.

It is especially helpful to teach them HOW to do these things as the job market is constantly changing. It's nice to know there is another way to do things and the sooner our kids learn to think outside of the box, the better.

Good job!

Absolutely Right!

I hope you will take a look at the above reply I made an' realize that WA is also an option for your young one. As I understand it, there are no age limits on WA an' you can let your child use one of your 25 websites to build his/her own business.

Many great Blessings for you as you move forward!

Warmly,
~ Yaya

I wasn't sure about that yet as I've just started but I have two that I think would benefit from this site, they are 12 and 17. I'm excited for the future, that much I know.

Thanks for the encouragement! <3

You're very welcome. I'm always excited to share any information, as I learn it. I'm afraid that I'm a bit of a slow learner, so I toggle along in my efforts, but I DID learn that because I went investigating about it. It was sump'n that was very important, to me.

Hang in there. Don't worry if your success is not immediate. As long as you keep plugging along, success will follow. Our effort is like a magnet... we keep trying an' success is attracted to it an' can't help but find the source. You CAN Do It!!!

Awesome! He'll be overtaking you soon :-)

What was he selling?

I don't do games at all but understand if you work for items you can sell them to other players. Great if you already play the game but it could take a while to earn/create the things to sell, no?

I would love to only I have no clue about his gaming sites or rewards that he trades, so not sure where to start. I would probably have to get a step to step tutorial from him.

Well done, Sortis on teaching your kids some valuable life lessons.

I have made money for myself all my life from selling conkers in the school playground (the ones that had won 10 times or more were worth more-wink wink) to buying on eBay and reselling for profit, to starting my business supplying care/nursing homes with hygiene products.

There is no better feeling in the world than making your own money, I bet he feels so proud.

That's great news, I don't know if young people know how privileged they are to have the power of the Internet right in front of them! I always think if you are a young person or retired person it can really be a great opportunity to make money in due to the fact of having more time available.

Hopefully, your son has got the bug now for making money online and I guess he will progress and keep learning as the weeks go by.

Have a great weekend.

Good morning Sotiris,

That's really good to hear, sometimes youngsters don't always take everything that is available to them, I know I didn't when I was that age! Must be really encouraging for you also.

Have a great day.

Congratulations to your son and I will be glad to share your post with mine. He began a website, but the writing is not really strong interest in him.
Reply
sotiris1 Premium
You could get him to do audio or videos and then transcribe them. That means he wouldn't need to do any writing :-)

Oh, this is a good idea, thanks so much. (I secretly hoped he would write more to make progress, just an interested parent idea lol)

Whaaaat? That's so cool! I keep talking to my kids about creating their own online businesses.

My son is a mountain biker and and he did manage to do a great job selling his old bike fork on ebay so he could upgrade to a nicer one.

Now I just need him to do a little more... I'm going to share this story!

Reply
sotiris1 Premium
He could do reviews on online cycling accessories and bikes etc. :-)
Reply
cld111 Premium
Oh yea, I've been talking to him about that. Bike and bike parts and accessories are pricey. And people (including him) are irrationally passionate about mountain biking, so they spend lots of money on it.

That's awesome! My father instilled in my brothers and me a strong work ethic. No internet back then, but learned good business customer service from him.
I am sure if his business was around today, I would monetize his website. :)

I am sure you would, learning good business and customer service skills is very important in the online world and with traditional business too.

I try my best not to compare myself to someone else. We all have a different mind set.
What someone may accomplish in a matter of weeks or months may take me a year, but I am OK with that.

I guess he is going to be just another college drop out, like Jerry Huang. I guess Jerry is flipping burgers now. lol

But, just think how much money you are saving by him not having to hit you up for college tuition!
.
And he probably won't be living at home when he is 30.
I see a great vacation for you in about 6 years.

Great parenting job!

I had a video but YouTube deleted my whole channel. It was a video of my thirteen-year-old son when he was just under two years old about 18 months, Uploading a YouTube video, at the time it was like a 5 step process not as easy as is now. I went to an event the next evening saw a video of my son on my YouTube channel. I thought my wife had uploaded it, but then looked at the time it was uploaded and realized my wife was out that day. On closer inspection, I could see myself in the background cooking the dinner at the cooker LOL...
