An Interesting Discovery About Using Amazon OneLink

Hey I've just started using Amazon.com with the One Link Option (thanks Loes & Chrissies) and I've just made an interesting discovery that I thought might be helpful to you.

So here it is . . .

If you choose a product from Amazon.com in the USA, named say for example, Bright Bush Homegrown 100% Organic natural almond butter (fictional name) and you click on that link when you are located in a different country, lets say for example you're in Spain, the results will come back as no product match and there will be 5 or 6 ridiculous items that have nothing to do with your search topic, like a hat or something equally unrelated!

The reason? It seems that the link works off the first portion of the name, so it searches for Bright Bush Homegrown 100% Organic which doesn't exist in the other country (for example).

So I changed the product I had chosen for one that had the actual product at the beginning of the name (like in the photo). So, instead of Bright Bush 100% Homegrown Organic Natural Almond Butter I changed to another product, called Natural Almond Butter 100% Natural and Organic

And Hey Presto! the search link in Spain came up with suitable alternatives.

So is it a solution?

No, not really because if you want to promote Bright Bush 100% Organic natural almond butter your OneLink is going to give a useless search result.

But I think it's important to be aware of...

If anyone knows any more about solving this situation, please let me know in the comments!

What happens if your Spanish reader buys something, do you get your commission?

Yes, if you sign up to OneLink you join your accounts together from other countries and get commission from all of them. So the default country is USA and then you add the others like UK & Spain, Italy France etc. So check where your traffic comes from and join up to those countries.

Cool, I like that.

I was going to investigate that further myself, as I am signed up with Amazon here in the US.

I would like to make all the links go to the same product, so I'm glad you brought this up.

Is it more work to sign up with all the Amazons out there and then click Amazon One Link? Or should I just chuck the whole idea?

Hi Sylvia,

Well, I'm new to it so I can't say what my opinion will be a few weeks down the line, but it seems great to me, apart from the thing I mentioned above.

Setting it up wasn't at all difficult. In fact I put it off for a few days thinking it would need more time, but it was quick.

You have to join each country separately first and get an ID from each country. Then you just have to click on 'Onelink' in the top right hand corner of your Amazon.com affiliate page and from there, put in your ID for the countries you want to affiliate with.
And that's it! Your links will now redirect the browser to the local country Amazon if it's in your affiliate list.

If I can help you at all let me know and I'll do my best!

Thanks Sorayacge!

I don't know how many countries there are for Amazon. Is there a way to find a list and then sign up with each one?

I appreciate the help!

Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, Yes, if you just go to the OneLink link on your Amazon USA affiliate homepage and click on it, then click on Link Your Accounts and you'll see a list of 7 countries that you can join.
You're very welcome! :)

Cool! I'll put it on my to do list! Thanks!

Interesting. Thank you for sharing with the community. Dave

Having never heard of Amazon OneLink before I can't help you with your problem, but I did learn something new today, so thank you.
