Top Benefit of Working From Home?

In my opinion, the top benefit of working from home is no commute.

This morning, I woke up before sunrise. A light blanket of snow had fallen overnight. As the sun came up, I was able to enjoy how pretty it was. Since I own a home based businesses, I didn’t have to rush to leave for work early. On the other hand, when I had a job, it was important to leave early on snowy days because extra driving time is needed to safely compensate for snowy and/or slippery road conditions.

As I was feeding my chickens, pigs, goats and horses, I was glad that I was actually able to enjoy my time with them rather than rushing to get to work. I realized that, for me, the top benefit from working at home based business is NOT having to commute.

Benefits of Not Commuting:
1. Save time: Time is the one thing that we can’t buy more of. When I commuted, I spent about two hours a day driving. I now use that two hours each day to care for a variety of farm animals which provide me additional income. How you could use the time that you spend on your driving to and from work?
2. Save money: I save hundreds of dollars each month because I do not have to buy gas or pay for parking.
3. Minimizes stress: Now that I work from a home office, I am not stressed about trying to get to work on time. I do not find myself getting stressed by traffic, other drivers or road construction. I do not get stressed worrying about if the roads get closed due to weather conditions. (The latter is a real problem in the parts of Colorado due to snow, snow drifts, and/or potential flooding.)
4. Help the environment: Since I am not driving to work, my vehicle is not contributing to air pollution nearly as much as when I had to drive to work every day.

If you are working from a home based business, what do you think the top benefit is?

Don't be afraid to pursue your dreams,

Sondra

Snowed in day ARE so much nicer when there is no comute. I enjoy winter and driving but not comuting everyday in it. Saw some flakes yesterday! The top benifet from my hbb would be breaking away from the mundane. Have a fun and productive weekend :)

Snow days are much, much, much nicer without a commute.

I hope you have a productive weekend also. Enjoy your time without snow.

Hi Sondra, I can relate to what you are saying, commuting is one of those things that most of us develop a dislike for over time. One of the real benefits of slipping out of that routine is regaining some control over our time. Just creating that more relaxed working environment can be worth heaps.
Really like the image are they your horses?

Hi Alex,
I agree, being able to create a relaxed working environment is worth a lot.

For example, that morning, I was able to experiment with taking pictures of my two horses (Lynx and Tigger) from different perspectives. Normally, my winter photos of them involved them standing inside their stall in the barn because it was dark when I left for work and it was dark outside when I got home.

Since I live in an RV, I took a part-time job managing an RV park. I work only Monday through Wednesday and the next four days are spent on the business I love the most...my own. I cannot complain about the commute to my out-of-home job because it's only about 50 feet to the office and I can dress comfortably.

To work solely from home, for me, the top benefit would be the freedom to set my own schedule.

I loved the pic of your horses, Sondra.

All the best,
Sue

Thank you Sue! Freedom is nice. You can't complain about your commute. Lol

I've thought it would be really cool to get an RV. I would be a digital nomad - working on my online business where I happened to be. Unfortunately, I am not in a position yet to pay someone to care for my horses and other animals while I'm off traveling .

Best wishes

Yes, Sondra, I cannot complain about the commute in the least. It was REALLY difficult selling everything to go full-time in an RV. If there were more animals involved, other than a cat, then the decision may have been different.

All the best,
Sue

To me, now that I work in an office part time, the best part of when I work on my business part time is that I can be flexible about how I organise my day: no more 9-5, but my day may still start earlier so can fit in my work as well as family commitments. And with that flexibility comes the freedom of being able to do so. When at work in my office based job, I have a boss... and I have rules to oblige to. When at home, I make my own rules. You can't fault that at all :)

Giulia

Giulia,

I agree. You can't find fault with how nice it is to make your own rules.

You cant beat country living as you know Sondra. My rooster George ensures the best AM timing around!

Mike,

Country life is great especially when you have time to appreciate the blessings such as a beautiful rooster's crowing and welcoming the start of a new day.

I am so happy now that I don't have a boss over my shoulder complaining about costs or productivity. I don't have to stress over schedules or deadlines since I only have to answer to me! I've always been an extremely dedicated and efficient worker and now I don't have to prove it everyday for hopes of a nickel raise.

Very well said. At times, I miss the regular paycheck but I do not miss the stress associated with getting that paycheck.

Best wishes for much success.

Hi...beautiful picture. For me it's the freedom to work at my own pace.....no deadlines imposed by anyone but me.
Debbie

Thanks for compliment. Being able to set your own deadlines is certainly a benefit of working from home.

there are tax breaks as well when working from home

Very true. Grea point.. In the US, there are probably more home office deductions than most people realize. These would include a portion of utilities, repairs, trash service, insurance, rent for tenants, and property taxes and depreciation for home owners,
