As you get ready to start the new year, 2019, I suggest that you take a little time today and declutter your work space. If you make a decision to spend even 30 minutes decluttering today, you will most likely get more done because you have a sense of urgency. With a sense of urgency, you will spend less time dwelling on whether you should keep something or discard it.

If you are in the United States, if you have things that can be donated to Goodwill, the Salvation Army or other similar organizations - you may be able to use your charitable deduction as a tax write off to reduce your 2018 taxes.

I"m not talking about simply a desk with piles of papers that you can quickly find items in. Although some people may think of your piles as clutter, your system makes sense to you.

I am talking about piles and boxes of stuff that you have to dig through for hours, when you are trying to find one document, one power cord, or whatever it is you are looking for. If you have a business with customers or clients, I am talking about the piles of things that turn make your clients uncomfortable.

Whether you realize it or not, clutter is stressful. Subconsciously, when you look at clutter, your mind sees undone activities. Things to do. When the clutter is gone your work space seem larger and more inviting. You are better able to focus on your work.

I watched a Bob Proctor seminar a while back. He believes that order is heaven's first law. Order if the first step in progress. He went on to say that getting things in order is one of the great secrets to progress.

Go ahead. Challenge yourself to spend at least 30 minutes TODAY decluttering your work environment. If you spend more time, that is great. This little exercise should allow you to be more productive in 2019.

I hope you have an enjoyable and safe New Years Eve.

Best wishes for a happy, productive and profitable New Year.

Sondra

Hi Sondra,

Good to see you. I hope that you are having an enjoyable time over the festive season and that 2019 is going to be your year.

So true what you say and I have to agree 150%, clutter can be like this huge anchor that holds us back.

A really timely reminder, starting the year with a clean slate, can give us that clear vision that enables us to create the outcomes we desire.

Enjoy your journey in 2019.

Alex.

Happy New Year Alex! I like your analogy that clutter is like an anchor that holds us back.

Hey Sondra,
Happy New year. Some need to declutter more than just a desk.

Tried and True

Elaine

Happy New Year Elaine!

Honestly, I have had way more than just my desk to declutter. Yet, it does help to start with one area or thing at a time.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I try to declutter regularly -- it's amazing how quickly it comes back, that clutter! ;)

Marc

Happy New Year Marc.

I had to laugh as I read your comment. Yes, clutter and dust bunnies seem to come back way quicker than I would prefer.

Yeah WA can easily add to the clutter if we aren't careful! cheers Marc

LOL I suppose that is true. When I first joined, I wrote all of my keyword research lists on paper, bought domain names like they were going out of style, etc, etc.

Happy New Year.

Time to put order in the old homestead. Happy trails 2019 Sondra!

Mike, I hope that you have a wonderful and productive 2019. I'll see you around next year.

This year now Sondra! :))

One of my greatest faults is the clutter in my office. I had just started to clean when I read your post. Thank you for the encouragement, I hope 2019 is your best year ever!

Michael,

I hope your decluttering process is going well. In the last year or two, clutter in my office has created many challenges. I've spent two days decluttering this month. The end result has been SO worth it.

Happy New Year.

Yes, I agree. Decluttering is good for all areas of your life. Anyone that believes in the Law of Attraction believes that too. :) Happy New Year! 🎆

That is so true. I agree, decluttering is good for all areas of your life. The Law of Attraction and the Law of Vibration both say that that you need positive, uncluttered thoughts to attract positive emotions, energy and people - if I understand it correctly.

Happy New Year!

You have a Happy New Year, Sondra.

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a Happy New Year also.

No problem.

Ooh Sondra, you have pricked my conscience, I had thought
of doing just this, many times, but realize that I really must start
to clean out excess stuff.

I've had a good many years to collect 'special stuff' and have had
many house moves, but still I have this excess.

One of these is unfortunately, 'stuff' left to me by my parents.
Difficult to give away precious cups & saucers & bric a brack that
parents have saved for years. I hesitate. but I don't have a use for
them, so I guess they must go.

Yep, my work space also need decluttering, so many containers full of pens, highlighters, pencils, and shelves containing papers etc.

Thank you Sondra for getting me moving to clean up.
Wishing you well on your clean up also.

Cheers Jae ♫

Hi Jae,

Thanks.

I understand exactly what you are saying. I think I started to learn how to let go of the special things once I saw how my children started going through their Dad's belongings and his parents belongings that he had inherited, after he passed away.

I now think that it would be better to have a bit more say over some of the disposition of many of the items that I own that my kids will have no interest in. I can choose whether to give away, donate, throw away or even sell.

After all, it is not feasible for children to keep two or three households worth of stuff when their parents are no longer around.

Happy New Year!

Sondra,
Do you have any extra time today to come help me?
I have been working on WA since July and left all go
around the house - with the exception of quick clean
ups LOL - I need serious help to declutter this place!!

But you are so right, and I am doing this later today taking
time off from WA just to make everything ready for the
New Year all clean and organized - with my OCD right now
things are making me crazy!!

Thank you for this helpful advice and I will be starting
shorty to put it to use.
Happy New Year and prosperous 2019,
Susan

LOL At the moment, since it is snowing, wind is blowing 27 miles per hour and it is 9 degrees Fahrenheit outside, I would volunteer if I could get to your house quick enough.

In all seriousness, the productivity on my websites and business has improved dramatically once I cleaned up my work space. It was like the clutter was mentally dragging me down with the thoughts of things that needed to be done.

I hope you got some decluttering done.

Susan, I hope that you have a great New Year!

Sondra,

Sorry to say that I did not :( I get on WA and become
so involved I only stop to get coffee, eat once a day,
and go to the necessary room LOL

I really do have to stop this and get organized - it is not
that the house is dirty just cluttered and it drives me nuts
having OCD does not help and I just block it all out most
of the time - but you are right I need to take a break and
do the right thing. Thank you for inspiring me to know I
must do this!

Susan
