I've Become An Affiliate Snob

When I first joined WA, I didn't know what an affilate marketing was. I didn't know what an affiliate was. I certainly didn't know how to find affiliate marketing opportunties.

Eleven months later, I've discovered that I have become an "affiliate snob." Everytime I visit a company's website, I find myself scrolling down to the bottom to see if they have an affiliate link.

While I don't join the vast majority of affiliate programs that I come across , I've gotten to where I prefer not to do business with "big" companies that don't have affiliate programs. I've become an affiliate snob.

Today, I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out why I prefer to purchase from companies that have affiliate programs. I finally decided that when I make a purchase of something that i found via an affiliate marketer's link, I am frequently supporting a small business. I will not save any money by purchasing directly from the business. So, why would I not want to initiate the purchase from an affiliate marketer's site?

I must admit, I refuse to purchase from affiliate marketers websites that are so full of ads that I'm scared to move around on the website via my Ipad for fear of being transported to some other website. I hate websites that have ads up in the headers, footers, in the widgets on the right and in the middle of the text that I am trying to read. I try to avoid those types of affiliate marketing websites.

What about you? Have you become an affiliate snob?

I think its those jumpy ad packed confusing websites that have given affiliate marketing a bit of a bad name. People dont realize that with a well designed site there can also be a ton of affiliations, they are just done right so they are not destroying the browsing experience. Quality sites are good advertising for all of us.

I think so, I have defiantly been buying more off Amazon.

I'm glad to hear that. Once we become aware of how things work, we have chance to be smarter consumers.

I find myself quietly annoyed with websites that are overly commercial. I'm usually led to these sites because they come up when I'm doing Google search.

The constant pop ups are particularly annoying because they interrupt my purpose for being there. Side bar links are ok, because they allow me to choose to go there. Do people really go to these sites in search of the pop up ad?

I don't think you are a snob ... you're way more informed.

You are correct. Pop up ads are aggravating. Especially when you can't hardly see the little the spot you are supposed to click to make them go away.

I don't like it when I surf to a site and begin reading and poof, there is a opt in form plastered over what I was trying to read. The owner wants me to sign up for a newsletter or other directed marketing. I might want to do this, but first let me read the site a little.

I agree with you. Allow us to like the site first before asking us to sign up. Thanks for commenting.

You have a good heart for the small business owners and affiliate marketers. May the Lord bless you so much in return.

What a nice thing to say. Thank you!!

LOL that is so cool but I try to keep away for too many websites

I spend a lot of time each day reading and researching my various interests, so I see lots of websites.

Oh yes, I've also joined the ranks of "affiliate snob", Sondra. We should start a club. :)

Yeah! I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

Another term is a "click through aficionado" Sondra. Congratulations on a smart move! :)

Mike, I like that term. Granted, I'd have a challenge spelling it.

I think you've earned the right to be a "snob", Sondra. I don;t purchase enough online to reach that status....perhaps that can be a new goal for 2018!

Hi Veronica,

Actually, I don't know that I really purchase ALL that much. I spend more time researching and just reading. Regardless, I am amazed at the number of affiliate marketing opportunties there are out there.

Thanks for sharing ftirnd. It a good idea. Necause ehen you buy from your own affliate program, in a sense you're gaining because you're afgiliated with them and you get your commision for your own purchase.

If we have bought and used products or services that we promote, we can write about them much more intelligently.

Again, there it would not be possible for me to participate in every affilate program for places that I shop - online or offline. There are just on many affiliate opportunties.
