You are right on in your methodology! I'd rather have 1 post with excellent content than a dozen that are mediocre! Volume is not the priority - quality is! At least quality needs to come first if you actually want to sell something.

It's not hard to generate thousands of words of garbage. You can even get it to rank. But your audience doesn't want to read that, so your bounce rate will be high and your conversion rate will be low.

Keep focusing on quality. What you are building will stand the test of time and perform well!

Personally, I always make sure that my content is similar in word count as that as my competitors as well as always giving value to my readers as well

Hey Jordan, in my humble opinion, it's always better to provide high quality content because Google's algorithm prefers it. That's why word count and relevance are some key factors in ranking. I always put myself in the reader's position and try to anticipate what questions the reader would have about a particular topic? What are the pain points and what solutions are they seeking? It's a great way to build authority and trust with your audience and they will be loyal raving fans if you offer value first. At which point, they will be more likely to purchase products you recommend. Hope that helps!

We agree with you that quality is more important than quantity. In December when Google did its latest algorithm, our sites are getting more traffic. We believe that this is the way Google handles quality content.
