I have just joined Amazon.ca Associates and I was just wondering, if someone is in the USA and reads my blog, gets inclined to buy the product that I promote, then clicks on my affiliate link to the product, I understand that this will being them to Amazon.ca... Now, they have to change to Amazon.com because they are in the USA. If they purchase a product on Amazon.com, when they were ultimately led there by my website, do I still get my commissions on that sale?

Currently I am an affiliate for .ca and .com. I post both links on my website with a little country flag for each.
So far this has worked but it is not the best solution.

I will have to check out plugins like Genius link that was mentioned...I have heard that some do charge and that some will take your commission if you make a sale to an Amazon country you are not an affiliate for...

Ahh I see. That's a smart way to do things in the meantime though.. :) Thanks for the suggestion. It's very helpful

Unfortunately you will not get a commission in this scenario. Amazon should change that and hopefully they will at some point.

At this moment I found a solution for it by registering as a .com affiliate (as well as .ca, .co.uk and others) and using a service like GeniusLink. They basically redirect your visitor to the appropriate Amazon marketplace while keeping your affiliate link.

Oh ok, that sounds like a good way to make this work. But won't this mean that I'm conducting business in the USA too? Seeing as I'm in Canada, are there any legal requirements for me to conduct business in the USA?

Thanks so much for helping me understand!

Reyhana, when you become a .com affiliate Amazon will provide you with some "tax exemption" documents where it says that since you are not in USA and you are not a US citizen you won't be paying US income tax.
