Hi Wamily, just wondering what you all do if you receive comments on your website in a foreign language? Do you try to translate the comment and reply in your language or you classifying it as spam?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, I appreciate it.

Have a fabulous week,

Jude🌺

I always translate foreign language comments the same as I do with those on WA who post comments in their own language.

I usually reply in English because my blog is marketed to a mainly English speaking community. There is no reason why you cannot put your reply in both English and the commenters language as well.

Good Morning Jude,

Even if the comment you get on your website is in a foreign language, it does mean your visitor knows enough English.
I would translate the comment to see what it is about. If good, I would reply and say something like: Sorry, I do not speak your language but.....
If it is nonsense or spam out it goes.

Hi Jude,

It depends on the foreign language.
Dutch is my native language,
Papiamento is our local language in Curaçao.
Easy to learn by the way. The name of the language actually means "Speaking".
I can manage with Spanish and know some Hebrew, Ivriet.
Google translate is a good tool however to translate a lot of languages.
Even if you don't know the name of the foreign language, Just copy/paste the text and Google Translate will most often recognize the language.
Specially for newbies it is encouraging to get a response in their own language.

Hanco.

Translate them Jude, if they are good comments & leave them in BOTH languages. Do NOT depend on Google Translate. I work part time as a Spanish/English translator and its not good with Spanish. I would check Reverso or Linguee & then compare it with what Google Translate says, and then edit to make sure its grammatically correct.

You might want to add the GTranslate plug in, its pretty good, not perfect but it works ok on my site.

I hope this helps.

Have a great day.

I have never had that happen, I’m not sure what I would do.

Hi Lisa, I translated the comment, but I am under what they try to say. Perhaps I should just ask in English of they can clarify their question..
Have a great day, and thank you for stopping by.
