You've put the code into the <body> instead of the <head>.
The easiest way to verify with Google is by using your SEO plugin. Google Verification Using All In One SEO Google Verification Using Yoast SEO

I have had issues with verification emails on multiple occasion, most recently while trying to sign up with an affiliate program. I have sent the verification email about 8 times and it never reaches my inbox. It is not in my spam, either.

How did you get it there in the first place? Just reverse the process to delete it.
