WHO MOTIVATES THE MOTIVATOR?

As I have been watching the FIFA Women's soccer matches, I had a flashback to many years ago when my then eight year old son wanted to play on a soccer team. As we signed him up, I agreed to become a soccer coach and coach his team.

I didn't know anything about soccer, I had seen little guys and gals around town practicing and playing games on Saturdays, but I was an American football and basket ball fan.

I attended several training sessions and clinics and I learned a lot about soccer.

I was given a list of names of potential players and my son and I made a lot of visits to these boys to get acquainted with them and their parents and to inform them of practices and games.

During practices,I tried to teach the concept of positions, but in practices and especially games there was always 22 feet chasing one ball!

MOTIVATION

To try to motivate these boys I would say:"How much do you want to win this game?"

The answer from each boy in unison was a very emphatic "BAD". In other words how "bad" do want to win? "BAD!!"

Well, these boys were a scrappy little team. I coached them for three seasons and I saw tremendous improvement. I have watched these boys grow up into fine young men along with my own son. I reflect on that experience as a high point in my life. Some of them have even gone on to become soccer coaches.

I recently read a great quote that made me think about that little team and life in general. It has reference to those of us who want success and are willing to pay the price for it.

From Billy Cox, motivational speaker: LIFE WILL ONLY CHANGE YOU WHEN YOU BECOME MORE COMMITTED TO YOUR GOALS AND DREAMS THAN YOU ARE TO YOUR COMFORT ZONE".

If you are like me, the training from WA has caused me to stretch and work harder than I have ever worked to learn something new that I never knew before.

I'm sure each of you feel the same way!

To our success!

Thank you for reading!

Well done Michael!
I think that first step into the unknown is the most difficult, it’s a pure leap of faith, whether it is coaching soccer or joining WA.
What keeps us going after that is the enjoyment of each new skill learned or goal achieved.
I liked the quote, wasn’t familiar with Billy Cox but that gives me something new to research!

We are always told to do the simple things first so if wa is hard to do because you are in unfamiliar territory naturally as humans we will procrastinate and do something else that is easier.
So, I think educating yourself with word press and all the other internet knowledge while trying to do your everyday work will make a person want to do the wa blogging cause the education part will be easy and you will be more motivated to set a goal.
So. Do a little each day even if its only 15 minutes then try 25, 35, 45 and try increasing it everyday.

Good post Micheal 😎👌

I neither imagined that at my age I would start with learning technical things but now I am happy I did.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

It has been a stretch, hasn't it? It's sure a good way to learn a lot.

Who motivates the motivator? The attainment of his goal.

Hi Michael,

What a great inspirational post.

Without you where would these young gentleman be. You jumped on not knowing anything about soccer and you motivated your team.

The quote from Billy Cox, sent a shiver down my spine so very true.

I jumped into WA without knowing anything. I will continue to learn every day.

My motivation, comes from my WA friends and reading posts like you just wrote.

I thank you very much for sharing.

Wishing you all the best,

Michael

Hi, Michael.
I remember watching my son as he played soccer and you are correct ...it was everyone after the ball. No positions required.
It looked like they were having fun though.

I am impressed with where International Women's Soccer has come, and I'm Loving it:

Match for Third Place:
England Vs. Sweden on Saturday July 6th., and

The Final for The Women's FIFA Wprld Cup 2019.

United States Vs. Netherlands on Sumday July 7th.

Looking Forward.

Paul.

The timing of this article was perfect! My next post is how to be motivated to take care of our health. It's a struggle for me and I bet it's a struggle for lots of seniors.
Well written and engaging. Thanks!

Same here Michael. This has exercised and stretched my brain and patience on a daily basis. Then when I'm ready to explode, I ask and always get an answer I can understand.
Fantastic community here.
Comfort zone? Can't remember what that was, lol.
