Why & How to optimize your Wordpress database
Yesterday - after publishing my tutorial on CSS and Javascript minification - I received another performance-related question from one of my readers ... She was looking for a simple method of optimizing the Wordpress database of her website.
Needless to say, there is a solution ...
But let's start with the obvious question ... Why you should optimize your Wordpress database?
It's simple ... Your Wordpress database becomes bigger and bigger every single day and if you have been using Wordpress for a while, then there is a LOT of "garbage" and useless data in your database (trash content, spam comments, post revisions, transient options, orphaned metadata, etc). And this constantly increasing data volume will make your site slower. Also, your Wordpress backups will take more disk space and time to restore ...
Optimizing your database cleans up unwanted data to reduce the database size and to improve performance. Basically, the database optimization revolves around getting rid of garbage data and useless content from cluttered databases, shrinking them in size and making it easier for website hosting servers to fetch the requested content efficiently, within minimum processing cycles. And of course, a smaller database also means faster backups, easier restore, and improved database performance.
This is is why I've decided to create a short tutorial where I will show you how to easily optimize your Wordpress database and remove clutter ... with one click.
