It's a well-known fact: keeping your website updated is extremely important.

As a result, we are constantly bombarded with periodical new updates released for core Wordpress files, themes, plugins, etc.

And that's a good thing ... This is how we get the latest fixes, the newest features, etc ...

The concept is very simple: by default, Wordpress will automatically update itself every single time when a new minor release or a security update becomes available, but for major Wordpress releases, theme and plugin updates you'll have to install the update manually.

And let's face it, it could be annoying to see all those new update notifications after each login ... Not to mention the time factor ... If you are running multiple websites, it could be very time-consuming to check and manually install every single Wordpress, theme or plugin update ...

But the real problem lies deeper ... Certain security, SEO, backup, etc plugins will simply overwrite the aforementioned default "behavior"! As a result, your core Wordpress files, and even your theme(s) and your plugins could/will be updated automatically. Without any notification ...

And I know what you are thinking ... If updates are good, there's no problem here, right?

Well, the truth is that the technical gremlins are immortals - and despite the security benefits - an automatic update could break your site ... It's a very slight chance but is always there ...
