If you haven't, here's an example from my blog ...
Usually, they are used as eye-catchy quote boxes which will encourage users to tweet a given content piece ...
And I can tell you from my very own experience, they are very effective in increasing your site engagement level ... And of course, in getting more shares on Twitter :)

Thank you Zed. When I go to tweet something this blank face decides he wants to join me. Just can't rid of him. Very scary stuff. My tweets do not look very inviting because of this guy.
