should I alter my domain name to get a .com that is available or is a .net or .org that is available with my original domain name just as good.

Just to clarify one thing. Google has said explicitly that the tld (i.e. .com, .net, etc) doesn't affect your ranking. The only time it may come into play is if you use a country specific one. That being said, I would go with a .com if you can find the one you're looking for. There are dozens of new ones too though like .club, .me, etc.

Thanks,
I choose a .com

Sounds good!

Personally I always go for the .com as they are the most well known. Most people automatically assume ".com" when you tell them a website name and to me it just looks the best. They also have really good ranking power. But a .net and .org are fine as well.

Thanks for the help. I altered my preferred domain name I got a .com. Once again thanks for the advice.

No problem, Steven!

Hello everyone,
Getting ready to create my first website, I was wondering is it better to start with the free website offered here on WA or should I go head a purchase a do

We own nearly 50 domains that we have purchased. I purchased a domain for 0.95. I am using it at WA NOW. I bought it from Host Gator about a month ago. However in your case, I would suggest starting with a free domain at WA until you get the site the way that you want it. Then purchase a domain and move your WA website to it. Its simple and safe.

Over my years at WA I have seen so many beginners want to change the domain name when they have a better concept of what they want.

Thanks, I can see where starting with the free site makes sense. I got some thinking to do.

Thank you for the help.

I would say purchase a domain. It's between about $13.99 and $15.99. I did that because eventually you are going to want your own domain because you get better rankings and are viewed as more credible. It also gives you some type of accountability being that you purchased something out the gate for your business you'll be more inclined to actually commit to creating your site, taking the trainings, and building your business.

In addition, you wouldn't want to create for instance a brand name siterubix domain that you build your business around say for instance "google.siterubix.com" and then later you try to buy google.com and find out that it's taken (just using google as an example) then you would be forced to use a variation of that or rethink your business name.

This was my thought process when I made the decision to purchase a domain instead of using the free siterubix one.

Good Luck! Wishing you all the best on your journey!!

Thanks Brielle,
I was thinking the same way as you, that it would be better to purchase the domain name right out the gate. I guess I just need some reassurance that it was the right step.
I really appreciate the help.
Thank you
