Are You Putting in The Wrong Amazon Links?

Now you might already know this but if you didn't I want to show you what I discovered today after using amazon for so long and "apparently" Putting The Wrong Links Into my Posts

Yes this is probably a stupid newbie mistake and you all know this already but I just wanted to let the thick ones like me know all about it.

While I was putting a post together today and inserting the links into my "Call to Action

Buttons" which I created on dabuttonfactory.com for free when I noticed something that confused me

For those of you that know me it doesnt take much to confuse me, lol

Have you ever been promoting a product on Amazon that comes in different colours?

Well I thought that there was only the 1 text link that you have to copy and paste into your posts!

I knew that there was different image codes for the different colours but still thought there was only 1 text link.

ROOKIE MISTAKE?

Oh, big time rookie mistake!

Now you might have known this and didn't care about it as long as it took your visitors to the right page as all the different colours would be on the same page

But when you hav been putting a link to a Black Rugby Gum Shield and when you tested it out it kept taking you to the white one

Then you can imagine how frustrated I was getting.

Untill the penny dropped and I noticed this...

I honastly thought that choosing the different colour choices was just an in page thing and had no effect on the text link

Some might say I was having a "BLONDE MOMENT" but I would call it a "MATTHEW MOMENT"

Notice the different text link for the white one...

Please tell me that I wasnt the only one that didn't know about this

Like I said, It doesn't really make a lot of difference to be honest as they are both linking to the same page but from a visitors point of view if they clicked on a colour that they liked they are more likely to buy something if they see te exact product that they clicked on straight away, instead of having to look for the one that they like for themselves.

Hope you are all having a great day and not the confusing one that I have been having

All the best and don't ever make the same mistakes as I have made

If it is even possible to be that stupid!

Well done to you Shwni. I hadn't suspected a different link for each color and I've been using Amazon for ages....!!

So, thanks very much for pointing this out to us, and within such a fabulous post. I enjoyed it :)

It's only a little problem I know but it's good to know about it, I think :)

Absolutely Shwni :)

Hey Shwni, I see you are your typical honest self! But, don't beat yourself up over this. Knowing all these things is impossible in the early days of your business. Thank God you're with WA! You can always find answers here. Thanks for sharing!

Very true, always learning and soon to be earning :)

I did not know that. Thanks for sharing.

My pleasure :)

I am close to applying to Amazon now - so it's good to know this in advance! You've probably saved me from making the same mistake...

~ Isabella

It's not a huge problem and It might not affect your sales from Amazon but it would certainly be a better user experience for your visitors clicking through your links :)

I haven't made that mistake but I've made plenty of others!
One link I use a lot is "here is whole page of similar/different colored/different sized versions of xyz product" and you get a link for that too!

Sounds Good :)

Ha! Anyone could make that mistake! I will certainly learn from this post. Thanks Shwni!

Pleasure :)

I learn something new every day and it is good you realized the mistake. ;)

Same here, always learning :)

Hey thanks Matthew, will pay more attention to this...
;-)
Greg

Like I said, I wouldn't worry too much about it but it's always good to know new things :)

I also, never really gave it much thought, so thank you for sharing your wonderfully blonde :) insight.
We just never stop learning do we?
Looking forward to your next learning experience. :)

Randi

Ha, I'm pretty sure there will be plenty more :)

Well Matthew, can I say that I never even gave that a thought so thanks for drawing that to my attention. I will certainly make sure now though that I pay attention.

Well spotted Mr. xxxx

Thanks, like I said, It might not make much difference but then again it might get you more sales :)

Exactly Matthew, you just never know what it could lead to. xxx
