Amazon Affiliate Cheques Don't Clear For up to 12 Weeks!

I received a cheque from Amazon Associates US last week in US dollars and apparently because I'm from the UK it can take up to 12 weeks for it to be cleared over here.

Has anybody else had an issue like this?

Just thought I would share this information to anyone from the UK that is still to receive a payment from them and to say that it would be much easier to have it put directly into your account.

I was told that if the amount on my check is less or equal to the other income I have, then it's instant (because if anything they can withdraw from my account).

I'm in Canada though, so it's safe to assume different countries and banks work differently. But you can still ask you bank about that.

I hope your cheque was for a reasonably large amount because I am fairly sure you will be paying quite a few pounds in bank fees.

On a similar note, I get charged a foreign transfer fee by my bank when I pay my WA subscription

I pay my WA subscription yearly with Paypal and I don't think I get charged a fee.

It doesn't surprise us that the check would take so long to clear. It would likely take a similar time for a regular check, drawn on a UK bank, to clear in the US. How else do you think the big banks make such great profits every year?
Follow Jon's advice below, and switch to direct deposit.

Would love to get the money from Amazon through anything other than a cheque, but I am unable to still (Norway).
Perhaps I should focus on affiliate programs that offer/allow paypal payments instead (such as WA).

Can I hijack your thread? I was told by somebody today that the 3 sales in 180 days doesn't apply to Amazon.co.uk. Is this correct? I have tried to find it in their terms of service with no success. I have only had 1 sale so far, and that was through Amazon.com

Every Amazon store is separate from each other, to keep US account you need to make 3 sales through Amazon.com, to keep UK account, you need to make sales through Amazon.co.uk.

Don't take my word for it though, I don't remember all the details about different account but I'm pretty sure how it works.

Either way, focus on getting sales to US Amazon because Americans shop the most and that store will be your biggest moneymaker.

Hey, they now pay by direct debit!
Previously my Amazon US cheques and Amazon UK cheques took 8 weeks to clear

Now they both pay direct to your a/c, go to your account settings and enter you bank details - IBAN details etc

I have some books published on Amazon.

They pay royalties at the end of two months after the sale is made! That's 2 months!

So if someone buys one of my books on January 1, I get the royalty payment for that on March 31. Great for Amazon's cash flow. Not so great for mine.

But guess what? You've got two alternatives. Use Amazon or don't.

I'm in New Zealand and it has always taken exactly 6 weeks for an Amazon cheque to clear. However, over the past few months I've received 3 letters from my bank saying that in March, of this year, they're changing their processes and it could take up to 12 weeks to clear. My bank continues to recommend online banking. The point is that Amazon does not allow online banking for New Zealand associates. To add to that, my last cheque has never reached me. I've contacted Amazon and they will cancel the cheque and re-issue. So, how long that procedure will take, and how long it will be before I eventually receive that cheque, plus up to 12 weeks for it to clear! Who knows!!

Did you know that just recently Amazon gave us in the UK the ability to be paid direct into the bank? You just change your payment settings.

Off to change my settings right now!

Wow - that's astonishing in this day and age. Thanks for the heads up!
