3am. The Yellow Flag

I’ve been waking up for the last few months at 3 or 4 AM, only to sit and stare off into space with good intentions on what my day is going to look like. After a few hours, its naptime, and nothing has happened. It’s like following a Pace Car under a Yellow Flag… until recently.

Recently, it seems, that I have been able to make use of this time. By 8:30am yesterday SAC post, and niche post were both done and dusted, and thanks to Support, a fixed website problem. (Today will be finishing that issue off… I HOPE)!

Course creation is coming along ever so slowly. But then again, I expect things to happen quickly through osmosis, so I may have to change my expectations there.

As for the sleep thing… my goal is to make 5am. At 3am, waking up is BRUTAL!! By 9 in the morning I’m toast! If I could take Melatonin, I would, but alas for some reason it doesn’t agree with my delicate self.

I don’t know why these latest posts are referring to car parts, and racing… Squirrel Andretti?? Maybe...

Here's to Council getting it's Groove back!! (NO TWERKING)

3AM ouch!!! I would not be able to function.
Please, NO twerking squirrels.

🤣

Well done Shauna. Thanks for sharing this piece.

In the last few days, I have been experiencing similar condition. Waking up in middle of the night.

I think it is necessary that one stop worrying about some stuff. A number of circumstances will go beyond our control. It's just best to get on with them and ask for grace from God to go through.

Wishing us all the best.

Segun

Well said Segun!
Thank You!

LOL!
It could be worse...you could be like me and require 11-12 hours of sleep to function!
It does help to shorten the “to-do” lists!

11-12... HOURS??!!
Ahh, the dreamscape!

Yep...and if I over exert myself on one of my “good” days it turns into 24-30 hours. It really isn’t much fun to be me!

I went through a stage of setting the alarm for 4.30am, just trying to squeeze the extra hour. The adverse effect was by 6.00pm just after dinner, I was falling asleep into my pudding.
I suppose it might work if you could adjust your bedtime but you'd probably end being in bed by 7.00pm and there's no fun in that.

Falling asleep in your pudding??!... the tragic end of pudding time!!
Bedtime seems to be when head meets pillow...

I understand your dislike of a 3 am awakening. I have a similar problem, but have managed to raise the ante to 4:30 or 5:00. It still is not quite enough sleep-time...but working on it.

Hope you get up to speed again soon.

Thanks Fran! I'm hoping to up the ante as well!

Hi Shaunna, you are not under the yellow flag, it is green for you all the way.
Being awake at 3:00 AM is nasty. You have to stop that kind of stuff.
There are a lot of natural ways to get the sleep you need especially if the melatonin does not sit right with you.
I have a post on my site about sleep, forms of insomnia and natural ways of gaining the sleep you require.

Adults (26-64): Sleep range did not change and remains 7-9 hours

Cheese, and turkey, they are rich in tryptophan

Salmon.

Whole grain crackers

Cherries

Bananas

Sniffing lavender before bed:

Chamomile tea.

St. John’s wort.

Yoga and Meditation For Better Sleep: There are some great videos on You tube.

Also a Himalayan salt lamp, perhaps one of those lavender scented plugins will definitely help.

Once you get into a pattern, you will be there to see the checkered flag.

Wishing you sweet dreams the next time you lie down to fall asleep. Please stay away from sleeping pills.

All the best,
Michael

Thank You for the AWESOME tips, Michael!!

As I read it, I thought this is exactly what I would suggest to a client!! LOL

*** thanks Doc! ... lol ... :) ***

Hi Shaunna
This 3am waking up thing seems to be a disease that hits many WA'ers. J

J,
It's starting to look like it!
Oh well, as long as I can create, and have a nap later... I'll deal with the symptoms of this disease...LOL
S

*** so same with me! ... saving grace is: coffee brew station is ON! ... would u enjoy a cuppa with me?! .... :) ***

Why Thank You I will partake with you my Dear!!

... ok with a wee hint of cinnamon? ... cream? .... ☕️ ... :)

Yum!

If this ends up being a continuing problem, my doctor has prescribed me with Zopiclone. That and meditation gets me back to sleep until 6:00 AM. Good luck! Lack of sleep is BRUTAL.

LOL... very true!! (I say bad words at 3 in the morning)... LOL

I feel you! I wake up at similar times, although its not because of the same reasons as you, its because of my twins! he he

Oh My... twins!!
