Get Targeted Traffic to Your Website Free!

Paid traffic can certainly boost your website's stats, and often it can be very targeted. Only problem is, it costs money (sometimes quite a lot of money). Paid traffic is something to try once you have refined your skills at getting free traffic and having enough data to determine areas where paid traffic might pay off in the future.

Free traffic allows you to see which posts are popular, what content gets the most engagement and shares, and which keywords seem to be doing the job. This is a risk-free way of gathering data, analysing that data and being able to scale things up from there.

Some websites get so much free traffic that the webmasters never go the paid traffic route, and that's the kind of traffic you really want. So how do you get targeted traffic to your website free?

Wealthy Affiliate Training Shows You How

Most of us here at Wealthy Affiliate have either been through the Bootcamp training or the Online Entrepreneur Certification training. Kyle teaches us a lot about writing quality content, on page SEO, and really gets into keyword research so those keywords get ranked high in the search engines and bring in traffic.

This is a tried and true method of getting constant free traffic that builds over time with the more relevant content you put out. It really is the best strategy to get started with.

However, there are a few other things you can do as well to get targeted traffic to your website free.

Social Media

This can be a hit and miss strategy, and it'll take a bit of testing to see what's effective and what's just a complete waste of time. Depending on your following and whether they are relevant to the niche of your website's content, some social media channels will bring greater success than others.

As an example, I haven't had much success with my Facebook followers for anything to do with making money online, but Twitter seems to always get a better reaction when I post something, or tweet about a new blog post. Pinterest gets quite a bit of interest as well. It really just depends. That's' why you need to test the waters with a few of them, join some relevant groups and circles and see what the response is.

Guest Posting for a Popular Blog/Site

If you can manage to get a guest post or 2 onto a popular blog or website within your niche, then this can lead to a decent increase in free website traffic. When you write a guest post, part of the deal is a link back to your own website (or social media account if your prefer).

It's all about learning to piggyback someone else's success. If they already have the traffic, take advantage of that and approach them with the idea of writing a free guest post for them.

Also invite others to guest blog on your site. It's a way to get extra content without having to write every single word yourself.

Engaging Headlines and Meta Descriptions

There's no point having a great keyword phrase that gets ranked highly, but the headline is lame and the meta description offers up nothing of interest. You want to get ranked, and you want your keyword in the headline, but it still needs to catch the attention of the reader, and so does the brief description that appears just below your link in search results.

Ensure a Better User Experience

Search engines love websites that have quality content AND are user-friendly.

This can be achieved by having an uncluttered site with menus that are easy to navigate. Another important thing to keep in mind is to link internally to other posts on your site within your content. If you mention something in your current post only briefly, but you have written in detail on that subject before, link to that post within your content. Google likes to see this and it helps with rankings.

Make sure your website also has a search function, so readers can search your site for information on a particular subject.

Email Marketing

Building up a relevant email list of subscribers is a sure fire method of always having a constant stream of free and targeted traffic on tap any time you want to access it. If you're not already starting to build an email list, you should be. In fact, you should get onto this as early as possible and get that list growing. It could be worth a lot of money to you down the track.

Make Sure Your Site Is Fast!

I've lost count of the number of websites I've clicked out of because the page was taking forever to load. Keep image sizes small, and don't have gifs and ads flashing all over the page.

Another thing that really slows websites down are videos that automatically play once the page is opened. The same goes for music that plays upon opening.

Video Content

Creating and uploading videos to places like YouTube and others is yet another effective and free method of sending traffic back to your website. Many people can be a bit lazy to read these days and would rather watch a video to get their first taste of the information.

If your videos prove to be popular, you can also make extra income by monetising the videos with advertising.

The Takeaway

There are numerous ways to get free traffic and targeted traffic. I've only mentioned a few. The first method is one of the best (along with video), as good SEO will bring in traffic without you having to work hard for every single visitor.

Awesome post, thank you for sharing.. I am currently focusing on learning/applying facebook ads, community pages vs. brands.. driving traffic to my ecom store. Organic traffic is always better, however the process can sometimes become slow

thank you for sharing good post

Free is always better especially in traffic and if it is effective Darren!

I agree that free traffic is the best. Like you, I did not have much luck with Facebook. I found Twitter and Linkedin to be the best traffic generators for me. I like the idea of inviting a guest to post.

I've had a few guest posts on my site. Not many. But it gives you a slightly different perspective, rather than writing everything yourself in your own voice.

How do you go about getting a guest post?

Thanks for good advice :)
