Hi!
Thanks for stopping by to read my question.
I am by no means a cat expert but have owned several cats, for the duration of their lifetimes, for over 20 years
Yes, it is a good niche. Now, aligned that with your goals because you need a niche that have a large enough audience so you won’t run out of traffic. And without traffic you have nothing to convert and therefore no sales. If the niche have enough traffic to meet your goals, I say, Go for it!
You could make your niche a little broader - say- caring for cats and that way you will never run out of things to write about to build a great site
I hope this helps and all the very best

Hi Shelly,
My first site is a cat site. I focus on supplements, behavior aids such as pheromone mimicking products, drops etc. I also review my favorite affordable cat tree, cat foods, cleaning products and more.
I have found that my posts dealing with problems and how to solve them are the most popular. I don't do many posts on toys because that is just not a problem most people are searching for online. There is a lot of competition so in order to do well with cat toys I would think you would need a lot of traffic to your site or some other way to differentiate yourself. It is certainly possible but it is a challenge I have stayed away from.
Of course I did not start focusing on toys so maybe there is an angle I am missing. My popular posts are for health and behavior problems like peeing outside the box, anxiety, throwing up and upper respiratory infections.
I agree that reviewing foods is difficult just as you described.
I hope you can find an angle that works for you. I recommend using Jaaxy to do some keyword research and see if there are good keywords for the types of posts you envision.

Great insight Jessica :O I don't know anything about the cat niche, but I would have guessed that toys is a great sub-niche to focus on. Reading your feedback, reality draws a different picture it seems! Much appreciated you shared your insights, that's very interesting.
I think it´s a great niche, if you can imagine writing about it for months or years to come.
Thanks for the lightening-fast feedback! That’s the dilemma... how much is there to write about cat toys? It won’t take much creativity but could become boring to others.
I guess if you find an angle on toys, such as:
Toys for health problems
Toys for behavioral problems
Toys for social problems
etc.
I guess with such angles you will never run out of topics! Or at least not for a few hundred, but that's just a guess. If you have doubts you can write that much, broaden the niche!
Finally, not all blogs are meant to become huge authority blogs. Some of them can stay niche-blogs forever, while you work on a second or third project.
