Outsourcing- The three Ws!

Hi, everyone!

I just wanted to touch base with everyone about The three Ws of outsourcing!

When, Where and Why.

Many of the people following me are new and free members and first off let me welcome each and every one of you to WA!

I just wanted to explain a bit about this before any of you may be faced with this choice.

Before we can talk about outsourcing let's define what outsourcing is.

The simple definition for this is "To send away (some of a company's work) to be done by people outside the company"

Now we are all are being taught through the training here that we need to learn all the basics as we build our businesses and this is all well and good but sometimes a person simply wants to hire out for say content or website work that they simply do not want to learn how to do themselves.

They still want to be the owners of their websites and manage them accordingly, but they are not interested in creating content or maybe creating a log, etc.....

It is perfectly fine to make the decision to hire out and as your business grows it does become part of scaling your business.

Some reasons to outsource:

  • Header Images
  • Logos
  • Content
  • SEO work
  • Website set up

There are many long standing members, including me here at WA that have taken this route and have had huge success doing it and they still do it today.

I have clients myself that I write content for daily and I also have others that have hired me to be their webmasters.

*Note*

I am not saying to run out and blow a ton of money on outsourcing.

This is a decision you must take your time thinking about and making sure you can afford.

So, that being said let's look at the three Ws!

Where

The where can be in any area of your business that you are weak in and need help.

I have clients who have me create content and they do all the other work.

Others hire out to Fiverr for logs or header images.

Maybe you need a logo and just do not want to learn how to make them, or you need a header image and that kind of work is not your cup of tea.

This is a judgement call and you must look at all of your options before hiring out.

When

Anytime you need help you have the option of outsoucing.

If you do not want to learn how to do it yourself, or you are learning the porcess but need it done now, then outsourcing may be what you decide to do.

Why

The reason to outsource is simple. Again, you need the work done and you either don't know how to do it or do not want to do it.

Summary

If you do choose to outsource, make sure you understand how much it will cost and the quality of the work done by the person or persons you choose to do it.

If the work is of professional quality and the cost is affordable, it may be the way to go to keep moving forward.

Above all else, make sure you have fun!

I have never outsourced but I see nothing wrong with that. What is a reasonable cost for 1,000 word post?
Ed

Hey Ed, I'm freelance on Upwork and I now charge $80 per 1000 words, but do a reduction of 25% for WA members. You can pay anything up to $150 for decent content :)

Cool, I charge less than that, I must raise my prices, lol

lol :)

I just wanted to get more responses to formulate an opinion. One Ambassador within WA said $25 for 250 words was very reasonable. At that price, you'd pay $100 for 1,000 word post.
Thank you,
Ed

I got a gig on Thursday which is $500 for 3 X 500 word articles, so it does vary.

ooof i could write stuff for that kinda money all day long...i mean i would type 15,000 words a day for that...let me see...

oooh, thats a lot of money

but am i good enough?

Need to get my calculator out lol. I wish those kind of gigs came along more often! It took me a while to continue to build my profile on Upwork to the extent that I can now charge what I charge. There will always be others who will do the same kind of work for less money, so I guess it depends on building a good relationship with your clients as well :)

Amen!

I charge $40.00 per 1000 words myself, and everyone is different.

Wow! That is pretty good...
Ed

Some think it is too high, others think it is way too low, lol. It works for me

That's what counts--that you are happy.
Ed

Outsourcing is the way to go. It's not meant only for the big companies. We can do it too. Invest your money wisely into your company and in helping humans.

Perfect Outsourcing: You build a team, where everybody is working in what he/she is best at. You can rely on your specialists and your business grows because of that much faster.

Great points!

Thanks Shawn, great info.

You are welcome!

Thank you for that information.

You bet!

Can you give me some places that may be affordable for me to check into

Sent you some info in PM :)

Very interesting. Irv.

Thank you for the great advice Shawn as in time I will have to oursource

Awesome!

That's exactly what I'm doing right now. I'm hiring a writer to write blogs for me because writing is not my cup of tea lol. Of course, it's quite costly for me

Textbroker is a great place to get articles. Not the cheapest, but there is built-in quality control. Writers have to pass an assessment to be approved to write at a certain quality level.

I will check them out!

Good points Shawn, thanks :)

You are welcome :)
