The Bandwagon

I have been avoiding jumping on the Covid-19 bandwagon for some time now but decided that it's time for me to join the conversation.

My Massage Practice has been closed for 8 weeks, and while that has been financially difficult, it has also created a boon of sorts.

Thing 2 is 'frontline' staff, and this has created us as his 'frontline.' When he's at work and has his daughter, we have become full-time babysitters! Who knew 7-Year-Olds had that much energy??!! Covid has given us time with our Grandmonster that we wouldn't have had before, and for that, I am grateful!

We have been practicing a 'quarantine' life for a few years now due to Mules (that would be my spouse) disability, so we were ahead of quite a few couples! We can do this standing on our heads! LOL.

I miss Thing 1, though. I haven't been able to hug him in 7 weeks, and that's been difficult. We talk through an open window, mindful of the Social Distancing, and we do Go-To-Meetings instead of talking on the phone. So really, it's the physical contact we miss the most. (We're a huggy crew).

Things I took for granted:

Going out with friends. It seemed like before this; we were all too busy to get together. When this is over, I will be making time!!

Family. The guys were always around. Now it's in spurts, and trying to keep that distance thing in mind. We haven't seen my dad in 4 months. We were about to see him, and this pandemic started. We are trying to avoid as much possible cross-contamination (if there is any) down to a minimum.

What I have gained:

Time

With Grandmonster

Time to work on my Course Launch

To work on my sites

What I don't miss:

Shopping!! I don't miss it!! At all! We get our groceries, and that's it! No browsing for things we don't need, which leads to not purchasing those said items! (Saving money)!!

All in all... we are making the best of it. We all are.

How are you coping?

What have you discovered about yourself during this time?

My life is not a lot different, since I live in a sparsely populated area. However, I, like you, miss hugs; I miss interacting with some of my friends. It is interesting, though, how adaptable we all are. Many of us have taken to lockdown like we are experts. That's good...and I agree with the folks who are not ready to remove the lockdown just yet. I think we need to wait just a little longer.

Fran,
Better to wait than have another outbreak... totally agree with you!

Tis' true that there are two sides to this particular coin. We have seven in the house, which can make things a little fraught at times.
Personally, I have always been a 'homebody' so don't feel as though I'm missing anything at all.
Acouple of the brood are struggling with not being 'out and about' but are finding other 'productive' things to do.
My wife's business (of which I am the 'grunt work partner) will now take a new direction in an 'online' way, which is a good thing. It was going to have to happen at some point, this has just bought that forward, thank goodness.
One 'spring of offness' is working still and another is working at home, the other two are students and are keeping up with course work via video tuition.
All in all, it's not that bad and is a case of 'needs must'

T,
Seven?! Egads! LOL
I hope you have unlimited internet! (And TP)...

Uncannily (for want of a better word) we managed to acquire a decent stock before things went mad. Interesting times indeed.

This is a great post.

Thank You

Excellent, Shaunna! Many silver linings, indeed!

Jeff

Always look for that silver lining!!
Thanks for stopping by Jeff!

So very true! I will, Shaunna!

As writers working at home, our life isn't as different as many others are experiencing. I had a case of shingles (not too awful, thank Goodness) a few weeks ago and my husband has encouraged me to stay home when he does the grocery or hardware-store shopping. I'm on my cellphone with family and close friends quite a lot, and I have noticed that I still have the qualities of bossy-big-sister than I've had for over half a century!

Glad the shingles weren't too bad, and that you've recovered!
Stay Safe!
