Because sites like YouTube has answers for almost all the questions. People are lazy to read. Videos are more compiling and easy to access.
I personally prefer reading most of the time, however, there are times when I like having a video. Text is good for lists, as someone can just scan through, but videos can be very effective for how-to's and tutorials. I think it depends on what you think your audience/visitors may prefer. Whichever method you use, just make sure its quality content.

I get all my answers from Google and very few from youtube, mostly because I have been using Google for years.
