Hi everyone,

I'm puzzled as getting lots of new user registrations on my site, I have sent emails to thank the people for subscribing and asked if they have any quesio

Interesting....

Thanks everyone I think they ae spam, will have a look into it a bit further. many thanks

I asked a similar question a while back because of New User Registration on my site. Yes, many have weird-looking 'outlook' email addresses. When I changed the settings it reduced to one in about three days.

My question is, what is the essence of the 'Register' feature on the website if we will end up disabling it because of spammers.

We don't need people to register unless we want to offer a paid subscription section. It can always be switched back on later if you decide you do want to offer this.

Oh, that makes sense.

Thanks for the explanation, Michelle

If someone registers as a new user but doesn't post anything in comments, you can be 99.9% sure they are there to spam. Just delete their email accounts. I have turned this off on my site. You can do this through Settings - general, then about half way down is a little box that says anyone can register. Just untick that and save.

thanks for this info, I just got a new user registration and didn't know what it was until I found this. I have deleted it and changes the settings on both of my sites.

If these are Wordpress new user registrations then you need to disable that feature. You do not need people creating user profiles on your blog and these are most likely spammers.

Go to Settings > General Settings and look for
"Membership [ ] Anyone Can Register"

Uncheck the box and save your settings.

This should disable the registration link that's on your login page and possible elsewhere on your site.

Oh and also you need to delete the users that registered.
Go to Users .> All Users > Subscribers and bulk delete the names that you see there.

You will get a lot of window shoppers. It is normal but not right.

that does sound weird are they all from the same domain like yahoo etc

Have a look at their email adresses, if they look scammy or not?

Yes, most of the ones I get are from outlook and they are not even readable.

This may be the wrong classroom for this I'm not sure

HARO - Help a reported out is a good site to sign up for and worth a look. Bascailly repo

I just started using HARO and already landed two interviews. We'll see what comes from it.

Thanks for posting this. I will definitely look into it :)

Hey thanks, didn't know about this.

Hey Sharon,

I signed up a couple of years ago to HARO. I get alerts all the time. It's also a good way to help with idea generation. I haven't used it for much of anything else. Thanks for sharing.

Best Regards,
Jim

Hi everyone I hope you are all fab today,

Rich has advised me Buddy Press is banned so I have removed the link, may go through the site to see if anything worth linking to

I like BuddyPress as a simple multi-user multi-author add-on to WordPress. However, it's worth noting that it is banned on WA hosting, as it and similar plug-ins put a huge load on the shared servers. You need to arrange industrial strength outside hosting if you wish to use it. Rich.

Oh doh!!! I will amend the post then thanks

No probs. It's definitely worth the recommendation. I can appreciate that if someone were successful with it WA could be in the position where hundreds if not thousands of people are all logging into the same site to author content to the detriment of other Members on the same server. I'm guessing that some plugins and addons that perform similar functions, own social networks, membership or dynamic content generators would also risk getting disabled if they demanded a disproportionate amount of server resources. Rich.

Hi I wonder if anyone else has experienced this and can push me in the right direction please. When updating Wordpress pages sometimes the updates do not, update.

I can ch

thank you techbound and bob247 will try your suggestions, may thanks much apprecaited

Hey Sharon,

It sounds like a caching issue with your browser. When you browse your page, try holding down the key and hitting (sorry I am unsure of the Mac equivalent). If that doesn't work, you can clear out your cache from the Options in your browser.

As for the blank lines with the picture, you usually have to specify the alignment which you can do in the Media section in the right when you select the picture.

Best Regards,
Jim

Hi Sharon, I have had this problem before with some Themes. Go to settings, select WP super cache, at the bottom of the list. Then in cache at the top click Easy, you will then see an on, off option for the cache, select off then click update, do you editing on your website, then it should work. When you have finished go back and set the cache back to on and update again.

Please can someone help? I have added my URL Changed DNS DNS change complete but cant access the website Cant access setting Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown

Yes, the website is up and running, but the problem is that you have the cached DNS and it takes 24 hours for it to propagate (change) in your area. Since Internet Service Providers cache the DNS, for anyone (you) who visited your site before the DNS change, it will take 24 hours for it to update and for you to be able to access your website. When changing the DNS it is typical for it to take 24 hours.

Everyone but you can see your website just fine, so give it just a little bit more time.

Brilliant thanks Carson., does it say this in the training? I may have missed it?

Hi Carson, I have been building my site www.classactreservations.com for a week or two without any problems but since last night I cannot open it all of a sudden. I have not idea what DNS is or what to do. A bit worrying because I have just asked all my supplier venues to view the site regarding them having a page so its terrible if the site is not working? Any ideas what I can do to get it working again. I did have a plug in called something like WE edit or toolbar cant quite remember, do you think that could cause issues? Hope to hear from you soon. John

Hmm, it's definitely something your end, I can access both the website and the login page at http://www.createearningsonline.co.uk/wp-admin Rich.
