Doing SEO In Augusta, GA

So for those of you who know me, you know that I have had a long journey here at WA and it all started three years back learning to build websites then learning the proper structure of a site which is important for UX and search engines.

Honestly, learning how to get your business ranked in the maps seems like it may be a waste of time but as you see above, my agency Georgia SEO Explosion, LLC is ranked #1 in the maps but before you jump the gun and check this, you need to understand one thing.

The maps listing wants off of several different elements but one of the main ones is the search location. Meaning, if you search close to Augusta, Ga then you will get the same results as above but if you do this from another city or state then the maps would most likly be much different.

How Search Engines Read

While I am on the topic of site structure, when you build a website you need to be aware of how Google reads to the data. From page to page or post to page, this is very important but in the same sentence, don't be to hard on yourself when you are first learning.

Building pages and producing content is important but what I recommend that you do a website layout to make sure the site is easy to follow from the reader and that it's structure has a well laid out feel.

Search engines crawl your site reading the code that we often overlook but understanding the key elements is easy to do then it is just a matter of doing the same process over and over.

Here are a few quick tips that helps me with on-page:

  • Use of H1 tags and only one
  • Using H2 and H3 but with an LSI of the H1
  • Not using Meta Keywords
  • Word counts over 1500 words but meaningful

Of course, can't give away everything I do but those key things helps me and I know when it comes to SEO people tend to have different beliefs but I go off of data and not opinions. These again are things that work for me so nothing written in stone.

Website On-Page

With the ever grow talk about links and linking tactics, I tend to break away to talk about on-page and the proper site structure.

Do a quick test of your website by doing a Google Structure Data Test and view how the search engine see your online property. On a second test, just open your site and right click then go to view page source and hit ctrl f to open a search and enter in H1 to see how many you have.

Repeat this on H2 and H3, this should give you the information that you are sending to Google so don't be surprised if you are not ranking and are sending mixed signals.

This is excellent advice Shane, I've heard this before, it's all about the View Source Code. Thanks:)!

The confusion for me is, I use Yoast SEO (which I like) and even when I have only used one H1 Tag, Yoast tells me I am using more than one. I check my articles, but I confirmed I only used one H1 tag for my heading.

Good to know about the Google Structure Data Test. I will check into it. Thanks, Tom

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Shane.
Paul Mindra here from Ontario, Canada.

Interesting Post.

I too, do most of what you do and have had very good results so far. (I do put heavy emphasis on linking) both internally and externally to provide really good navigation, good feel, and overall ease of use.

I tried your recommended test. Through H1 to H6, in all cases, I get one each in 'Red' with a few more in 'Yellow.'

What exactly does this mean?

I would value your thoughts and input.

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Thanks for sharing, Shane.
