I don't hear it used so much these days. Several years ago it was used to refer to social sites like Digg, etc.
It's just a term used to explain the difference between the earlier web state and today. It refers to things like Social Networking, Content Management Systems like WordPress, tools like Weebly and WIX, microblogging, forums, collaboration and the like.

I know that WordPress is based on Web 2.0. In earlier times (don't ask me from when till when) Web 1.0 (I guess) was used.
Well, after reading my own reply, I guess we use Web 2.0 for everything on the internet. Right? Wrong?
More commonly now referred to as social media. It is the ability to be relay information through the web via web traffic from one to another but nowadays as a social platform.
