Things i have learned thus far.

I realised a few days ago that it is nearly a year since I started affiliate marketing. I hadn't discovered Wealthy Affiliate at that stage so I realise now I have mad many mistakes along the way even after finding this site. But life is about learning,,and you don't have all the right answers at the beginning.

My first mistake was the niche I chose. At the time it made perfect sense to me. I was experiencing menopause and fighting weight gain, so why nt choose that as my niche.

When choosing my site name I made a BIG mistake. It was not obvious this was a site for menopausal woman fighting weight gain, so I have had all and sundry visiting my site and exiting it just as quickly. I have discovered that in actual fact it is not a topic I want to sit down daily and write about. This name will be up for renewal soon so I am deciding whether to keep it or cut my losses.

My next mistake was getting another site started on a different topic altogether but one I am interested in - The Law of attraction.

Because of my limited time not a heck of a lot has been happening with my posting there because I discovered the topic close to my heart that I really wanted to write about. My cat and my dog. So you guessed it... I started yet a 3rd site! Yet this site where I post as if it was my cat and dog speaking, giving advice from their point of view and personality is the one that really suits my writing style and one I will enjoy doing.

Looking back I realise I must have been quite mad, but it seemed a good idea at the time.

The next mistake I made was trying to sell stuff too soon. In my great enthusiasm I joined Amazon which was fine. Til I got the first email saying I hadn't had a sale in 3 months and if nothing happened soon I would be removed. I frantically added a shop on 2 sites and shoved ads wherever I could on the side in a desperate attempt to get things moving but in the end it was to no avail and in actual fact I was quite relieved when they gave me the heave ho LOL

Meanwhile the markets my husband I were doing started to take up more of my time and he needed a webpage. Guess who took on building that? Yep me. But by then I had learned quite a bit here and enjoyed building that and using woo commerce. Now I am getting my head around google adwords. I sometimes wonder if I have a death wish as I seem very apt at getting more projects on board than I could cope with while working away from home 3 days a week, doing markets with my husband AND trying to get our accounts in order as well. Fortunately I showed a bit of sense here and bought an accounting program that I use at work, tho the version without all the bells and whistles.

Finally I have got back here and continued with affiliate marketing.

I have decided I need to concentrate on one site only, my pet one ( plus my husbands site of course). I also need to spend more time on the courses here and get things right, and let the money side of it take its course gradually.

Frantic posting of posts with 50 affiliate links( just joking here hehehe) is not going to drive customers to my links. I need to take into account what time I have available and make my site interesting.

As you can tell I have a great sense of humour and can laugh at myself.

I share this to encourage others out there who may make the same mistakes I made. Its not the end of the world folks. Eventually we all learn and we don't have to beat ourselves up for not getting it all right at the start.

I hope this little blog post give some of you more experienced members a good giggle. (I was giggling while writing this so feel free to laugh with me) and for some of you out there struggling ... keep your chin up. We will get there in the end.

Thanks for sharing some of the attempts that didn't work out so well. Sometimes you just have to quit them and move on.

it was my pleasure. We have to keep things in perspective what ever happens. I certainly know a lot more now than I did at the start and it is normal to make mistakes. There is a LOT to learn as can be seen by all the training here. I hope you do well in your marketing and don't make the mistakes I did, no ned for you to repeat them when I have done them for you lol
