Still Time to Leverage the Eclipse?

If so, you best hurry! The total solar eclipse Monday afternoon is the first in generations to cross the entire USA. Over 200 million people are within a days drive of the path, so there will be a serious migration.

If your niche has anything to do with science, space, travel or cars, this is an opportunity for a blog post or affiliate offering to ride on this major movement of people and vehicles, and this temporary focus on the sky.

My sites are not in a good position to capitalize on this, but if your are, it might be worth some effort.

Just sayin...

good post

Very savvy Steve, I knew it was no mistake networking with a person of your forward thinking......not in a position to utilize the eclipse on the internet front. Where I am in the Southwest U.S. will not have an optimal view of the event. However, I do have some friends that are traveling to Kansas City for a great view of the eclipse. Just saw on the news that they are warning folks of possible traffic jams in lue of the event. And I'm sure where there's folk gathered, there will be an entrepreneur there to market their wares that most likely will be in demand. Good thinking. ATB Carson 1

Thanks Carson. Wish my thinking on this one had been about 3 weeks further forward, and maybe I could have put something together to work it.
I expect all the interstate routes between the total eclipse path and major cities will jam up before and after the event. I'll know for sure by Monday evening, because I'll be on a couple of them for at least 4 hours each way...

It depends on if your website has something to do with the eclipse. I know that mine definitely does not!

There is an article, which I just read today in this week's issue of Time magazine about the eclipse next Monday. Although somewhat different as the discussion in your article has to do with leveraging the eclipse events in an online business; authorities who are into the travel business and located in places across the U.S. where the eclipse will be close to 100%, (Casper Wyoming being one such place) are worried that the usual scammers/rip-off artists/unethical people will try and take advantage of tourists traveling great distances just to have the opportunity in witnessing first-hand this scientific phenomenon which does not come around very often.

Examples: Owners of hotels/motels trying to charge ridiculously high fees for overnight room accommodations, restaurants/grocery stores raising their prices for food and water, gas station owners drastically hiking up the price of fuel, and so on. I guess that some people being human beings are greedily looking to make as much of a profit as possible off of the events of next Monday's eclipse.

Kind of sad, don't you think?

As a young teenager I distinctly remember the eclipse which took place around the year 1970 or so. Then living in CT, it took place on a Saturday and due to our location we experienced almost the full effect of the moon blocking out the sun. In church with a youth group where we were all working on some indoor project in cleaning up a part of the church knowing ahead of time that it was about to take place, together we ran outside to see the eclipse and the incredible sight occurring in the middle of the afternoon, (luckily for us it was hardly a cloud in the sky) of it becoming almost completely dark for several minutes.

Thanks for your thoughts and your story, Jeffrey.
I'm one of those eclipse tourists, and I can attest to the fact that many hotels and bnbs are boosting their prices. I don't like it, but I do accept it as pretty natural. Parking is always more expensive on game day, and this is a BIG game.

I appreciate the fact that farmers are offering camper access to their fields and drive-in movie theaters are holding eclipse parties in the afternoon. The money incentive will offer options to travelers like me, and that's important, since many thousands of us will converge on places without facilities for a fraction of that number.

Doubling the price of a room is a bit greedy and yes, a bit sad, but it's OK. Selling fake eclipse glasses that will get your eyes damaged is a scam and a crime. That's one that should be watched for and stopped.

Steve

The community thanks you. Got to see this eclipse

I posted about this last week. It's going to be quite aa show and a real opportunity for great photography

I wish I'd seen your post, Micheal. My niche isn't a great fit, but If I'd had enough time to figure it out, I'm sure I could have done "something" to work it.

Still, I will do the 4 hour drive south to take in the full experience. Not sure if I'll do much to record it, though. I think the photography will be challenging. I'm remembering my attempts as a 13 year old, and they weren't pretty.
