Can I simply download a picture I like and add it to my site, or do I need permission from the manufacturer or company?
Check out Course 2, Lesson 5 for some good suggestions as to where to get images for your website. Also look at one of my websites

No, you can't simply download them. Most people either purchase stock images, create their own or cite the photographer in the caption section. If you do a search for "free images" in the search box you'll find some links to a few websites there.

To me it would seem difficult to sell a product when one can't show what they are selling. I hope I'm just getting ahead of myself and it will all come together.
I know that affiliate programs like amazon and webgains allow you to use their images as a part of selling their products. I'm sure other affiliate programs would follow suit.
