How to Survive Google's Core Updates

Heyla, WA!

Just a quick post today.

If you've ever wondered what Google is looking for when they create their algorithms, they posted an update on their blog on August 01, 2019, if anyone is interested!

https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2019/08/core-updates.html?m=1

The key takeaway is they're trying to satisfy the user, and content written for the search engines or that shares fake or misinformation is not going to rank well. They want what they call EAT - Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.

They have a list of questions you should ask yourself about your content that I find extremely useful if you're not sure if your content is great.

Also, spelling and grammar is stated as important too! You can't be typing in text speak or whatever and expect to be ranked.

Enjoy the read!

Thanks for the info! I've read some of Neil Patel's stuff before, but haven't been to his site recently.

Cheers,

Michael

You're welcome. ^_^; Sometimes we get too busy, but I saw that Google Update and was looking. ^_^

Thanks, Rochelle, for sharing and the updates.
Bookmarked this page for later reference.

You're welcome and thank you!

I have read the blog post by Neil Patel.

In short, focus on creating quality helpful
and in-depth content that educates the reader
and answers the questions they have.

The key is to focus on the user and a great
user experience.

This is exactly what is taught here in WA.

Yes it is. But sometimes people prefer having independent sources of verification or having it worded differently because it helps them understand it better.

Yes, I agree with you Rochelle

Thanks for the heads up

You're welcome ^_^

Thanks for the info I'll give it a read. I appreciate it.

You're welcome ^_^

I believe this is fair enough. Jim

Yup!

Since this is blogging, how does life experience factor in here? Seems like it has to be published in a medical journal to count as expertise which would eliminate most personal development sites from real people with true stories.

Yes, there is space in the E-A-T that factors in life experience.

The Google quality raters handbook clearly states that consideration is given from one that gains knowledge based on their life experience.

What Derek says ^_^;

Marie Haynes is the expert on E-A-T Been banging on about EAT for years.

Seed links (links from trusted authoritative sources and experts in your niche) seem to be a way of building expertise.

Google, of course they bang on about Misinformation - they (alongside facebook and twitter) were at the heart of election manipulation of 2016 and a collusion with wikileaks by manipulating search results.

It was no accident day after the election "fake news" was getting hit hard.

Let's not go down that road - politics is prohibited here. Just logicising the reason behind Google thing on misinformation.

Oh, I know why they are reducing the reach on misinformation, definitely. Government pressure. It's not just the election manipulation, it is the anti-vax stuff too because it's a 'health risk' that people are reading about and listening to online and it's causing issues, especially after the one 'study' that claimed it caused Autism was disproven and the author of that study was jailed or his license taken away or something else for some sort of fraud. Anyway, they proved there's no link, but the sites kept spreading it, and so the government put pressure on the search algorithms of Google, Facebook, etc, to getting it to stop being shown.

But you're right, there's a reason for that more than user experience.

Yes! KC1953 just did a post on this earlier today. I read Neil Patel's interpretation and really appreciated the clarity! I bookmarked it for later use.
Thanks for sharing. This is the core of what we need to know and should be very useful for everyone.

Thanks! Glad it was useful. ^_^

Thanks for the information! I’ll have to read this.

You're welcome ^_^
