I can insert images within my posts but I am not being successful at inserting images of my posts on my home page where it says "no image available". This is hard to explain bu

You need to make one of your images a featured image...edit each post and in the right-hand column at the bottom you'll see select featured image. Select one and click update. Then refresh your page. The theme has thumbnails for your posts but it doesn't know which one to use. Setting the featured image will rectify that.

That is done in your Wordpress editor. Scroll down to the very bottom where it says "Featured Image." Click on that and it will take you to your media library where you can choose an image. See screenshot below.
