I have not added my XML Site Map to Google Webmaster, every time I try to test it there I get a 404 error. However, in the mean time, Google has indexed 231 URL's from my website. Is it necessary to add this to the webmaster or not, and if so how do I correct this problem.

Thank you in advance.

I too am having major trouble understanding any of the analytics, or webmaster tools. Keeps saying error 404 for me to. Says no author but all that is and has been corrected in admin editor for a while now. says...no mark ups? what is that? Yes I'm lost and getting very frustrated at this point. Anyone help? Please speak English, not computer geek talk. I need to understand what the system is actually telling me. Thanks.

First of all according to Google 404 errors are not that huge of a deal. So don't sweat it. I just figured out how to add my site map properly, I was getting the 404 error because I was entering it incorrectly...do you have trouble with this?

I have errors for my authorship and update as well on my main pages...think I figured out how to fix them. I used to have 13 and they are down to 8 now..I was just sitting on that info to make sure they still kept coming off and showed problem fixed.

Haven't looked into markups, I don't have that many...maybe 3 or 4...
As long as I am getting ranked, indexed and traffic is coming in then all is somewhat good for now.

the data I see is false data because it's including my daily checking of my websites for my own errors. (typos etc.) my indexing is 26 but all that is, is how many pages have been submitted. I'm just not getting this stuff. Google drives me nuts every time I get into it, because they don't speak English...just geek speak.

These are some links that were given to me for a different error but some of them talk about this 404 error. So I will re-post them. Still have some computer talk but it is not too bad.
DMLeskoPremium Top 100 about 17 hours ago I googled and got some hits. Please try these links and see if they are of any help or lead you to a source of help.

I think that Labman has some training on this. And ask about linking authorship to your page. That may have something to do with it. I am not a computer tech person so I understand what you mean when there is computer talk. It is a foreign language to me. Good luck.

There is a way to exclude yourself, that is what I did....just need to remember how or how I got the info from...its easy....I have to go shortly, but will see if I can at least figure that out so you can remove yourself from being tracked.

Lol, I know the feeling....I will hopefully have some answers on the Authorship and update fix anyways.

I just watched Jays video about errors, that was somewhat helpful. I think he spent too much time on how to set up a spreadsheet to track your errors though, but he did say to take some pf these errors with a grain of salt, so I would watch this, it may help you out.

I've watched it. Not real helpful. Jay is a spreadsheet (specifically google drive) nut. Might have found something useful though for getting better rankings or at least visibility. Check out in webmaster tools something called "Highlighter" Quck easy way to highlight specifics about blogs and webpages for google searches. Not sure if I did it right but will check. Thanks for the help anyway.

Yes it is good to submit your sitemap to webmaster tools. I know that Kyle has several lessons on this. I also ran into one from
Bennyfactor that helped me.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-add-a-sitemap.

I did have a difficult time getting Google to find my site map. It did finally work. I am using SEO sitemap and I had to do some updating there. I just did what ever the directions were on the SEO plugin. I really think it was nothing more than hitting the update button. After getting into my webmaster tools I entered what Bennyfactor said to enter to test it and it worked, then I entered it again and hit submit. It is important to enter exactly what he says to enter though. If you are still having problems try to PM Bennyfactor for more help.
