just yesterday I had a review post in position 12 for google rankings, it's been climbing in ranking for months. Last night I edited a few things in the post, and today I just checked the ranking now and it shows "NOT FOUND" on SERP checker.

The only thing I edited was taking away the featured image, and then putting an affiliate linked product image at the top on the page before the text content. Was that a problem?

This happened to one of my posts too when I made a couple of changes. Give it time. It will be back.

Well, it did come back the next day. I haven't made any changes since, and now it's gone again. This up/down happens to posts I didn't even touch. One day it's at 32, next day it's just gone... Right now my serp average position is 44, the lowest point this month. Im not sure if I'm being penalized or not, I didn't get any messages from google..

It could possibly cause Google to classify you as a 'bridge page' because the affiliate link is so prominent.

I just moved the affiliate link down a few paragraphs, would this put me back in position 12 right away? or do I have to climb from the bottom back up again?

Only time will tell, posts can drop immediately but take longer to climb back up.
