I want to make a new website dedicated to one product only. Unfortunately, the domain with extension .com is taken but domain with extensions like co.uk or .online or similar are available.

Does it make a big difference for site ranking which extension I choose?

What about our siterubix.com? Is there any problem with ranking when using siterubix.com?

Best regards
Alex

I agree with what Joe said, .net is definitely a good one and playing around your domain name is also a good idea.

Once I wanted to buy unshakable.com as a domain name, however, it wasn't available, so I tried theunshakable.com and it was available.

Sometimes you just add a letter or subtract a letter and it will be available. Like coffeewithfriends.com it wasn't available, but coffeewithfriend.com was available.

It doesn't really matter the extension you will use, because nowadays peoples find you by adds or on search engines.

And peoples don't pay too much attention to that, the only one you should avoid in your case is .org, not because is bad, but because it is used primarily by organizations.

If you're in the UK, it can be interesting to have a domain name with .co.uk as an extension and it will work perfectly fine. However, sometimes it can lead to confusion, as peoples can think you represent the same brand as the one with the .com extension but in another country.

Looking forward to knowing which solution you finally choose.

Good Luck.

Thank you for detailed info. I decided to go with .com

I suggest that you don't use a domain name that has anything to do with the product name. You could be ordered to take down the website by the owners of the product name.

Thanks, I know I can't use the name of the product unless given permission by the brand owner.

Other than .com, .net and .info is quite a sound extension.
I don't suggest to use the sub-domain site-rubix as it does not reflect your brand and business. (My opinion).

Thank you. I may choose the .info because .net is taken.

Regarding siterubix.com I thought the same but wanted to hear what others think on the subject

You may also try a tweaked of variation of the original domain idea and still look for a .com extension. E.g. http://mysite.com / http://mybestsite.com, http://mybestsite2u.com ha ha..bad example :) You got what I meant.

With site-rubix, you can only build a sub-domain which is not owned by you.

It is, yes, and as Marion says below, which I agree with, it is better to use your own name or a variant of it, to avoid the issue Marion is referring to which is covered by a law, but can't remember which one it is.
